It is unlikely that Manchester United will be able to sign Declan Rice this summer given the financial difficulties they are set to run into, journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed.

What's the latest on Declan Rice and Man United?

Arsenal were thought to be frontrunners for the signature of the West Ham captain, but recent reports have linked United with a move for the midfielder.

However, given the potentially record-breaking finances involved with this deal, as well as the number of teams interested in the £60k-per-week star, it is highly unlikely that United will be able to pull off a deal of this size in the summer.

Speaking to Football FanCast, Jacobs revealed that United will have to operate with a limited budget in order to adhere to financial fair play regulations, even if they change ownership.

"I think Manchester United have always admired Declan Rice, but budget is a problem," he stated.

"Even with a new owner. and a rich one, they are still bound by financial fair play and as a consequence, the most important thing for Manchester United is qualifying for the Champions League, because that's what's going to give them more leeway in terms of budget."

What do Man United need to do this summer amid takeover talks?

The first priority for United is to end the uncertainty over their ownership situation, as the Glazers weigh up multiple offers to buy the club, or majority shares from the family. This is something that appears to be getting slightly closer as Romano reported this morning that Jassim has placed a significantly improved offer for the club.

Erik ten Hag's side are on the verge of Champions League qualification, and this would significantly boost their spending ability this summer, but it may prove to be a tough window. But, such a significant outlay on Rice doesn't seem too likely regardless of any situation, with this possibly putting them under tight restraints when thinking of strengthening any other areas.

It seems that the transfer priority is a striker, with Harry Kane linked, whilst a midfielder may also be sought out, and depending on the futures of David De Gea, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire, a goalkeeper and centre-back may also be targeted. Although, there have been reports suggesting that Rice is the No1 target.

United splashed the cash last summer to bring in Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Antony, and whilst they can expect a few signings this summer, it remains to be seen whether they will be able to have a similar outlay on such big transfers again.

Ten Hag has had a productive first season at Old Trafford, winning the Carabao Cup and reaching the FA Cup final, and if they can secure a Champions League spot, it will set up a good foundation for the Dutchman to build upon in the coming seasons.

Simon Helmot has been appointed head coach of Bangladesh’s High Performance Programme, which will run from June to October 2016. Helmot arrived in Dhaka on Saturday to finalise the deal, and will begin work at the end of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, when there is a new intake for the programme.BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that Helmot is being contracted on the basis of number of days.”According to his performance, we will think of his long-term responsibility,” Chowdhury said. “We have a plan with him, but for now it is based on the number of days he can be available. The HP programme will begin after the Dhaka Premier League, and the squad will be announced beforehand.”Helmot currently coaches the CPL side Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, and also serves as assistant coach with the IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad and the BBL team Hobart Hurricanes. He has previously worked as an assistant coach of Australia’s 2010 World Twenty20 side has also been head coach of Australia A.Helmot succeeds former England batsman Mal Loye, who was HP head coach from June to September last year. He ended his stint with satisfaction and had hoped to return to the same job this year.

Six of them have either played four Tests or fewer, and two are yet to make their debuts. West Indies captain Jason Holder, who has himself played only 13 Tests, said on the eve of the match though that he was confident in the abilities of the young group he was leading.”Most of these guys have performed really well in the domestic competition,” Holder said. “You’ve got young Roston Chase, who’s in the squad for the first time. He averages around 40 in first-class cricket. You’ve got Shane Dowrich, who’s been doing well over the last few seasons. Leon Johnson had a really good season. Those are just a few names who did well back in the first-class competitions. So I think all of them are really eager for an opportunity and I’m very very eager to go into the competition with them.”The players, Holder said, were hungry to make a name for themselves.”I think what motivates this young group is that everyone is trying to make a mark on international scene. It’s a very young team. Many of us are looking at finding our way in international cricket. I think it’s important for the youngsters to just come in, to make their mark and solidify their place in the team, and to make a name for themselves. You know there is a rich legacy in West Indies cricket. Many of the young players are looking to make a legacy for themselves.”A lot of the inexperience in the West Indies team is concentrated in their bowling, following the loss of their long-time new-ball pair of Jerome Taylor and Kemar Roach to retirement and non-selection respectively. You know Shannon’s obviously a fast and aggressive bowler. Miguel similarly. Myself and Carlos, we’re mainly the workhorses in the unit. You just have to know your role. Holder said it was important for the team to keep improving steadily, while not expecting too much of them too soon.”You know that’s the ultimate aim [to be equally competitive in all three formats]. We’ve got a young side, and it’s good to see we have some young faces. We’re looking to build something. In the last series we played in Australia, we didn’t start really well. Moving on into the Test series, we got significantly better. All I stress and address with the guys is to keep improving. You can’t expect leaps and bounds, too much from a very young side. Once we get the steady progression in terms of improvement, I think we’ll move forward.”The last time West Indies played in Antigua, in April 2015, they saved a Test match against England courtesy an unbeaten fourth-innings hundred from Holder. Batting remains the second string in Holder’s bow, but in the days leading up to the Test against India, he has batted far more than he has bowled in the nets. Asked about this, he said he preferred to conserve himself for the long spells he often bowls in Test matches.”I’ve played a lot of cricket this year already. As I said, it’s about managing your body to get through a four-match Test series. I am a workhorse, so I don’t particularly like to bowl that much leading into a Test match. I like to save my energy for the Test match because I know I’ll be required to bowl quite a few overs. That’s how my preparation goes in terms of my bowling.”I try to bat a lot because I feel as though I need to pay a lot more attention there. That’s more of my secondary part of my training. I try to work really hard to get my footwork going and my balance going which I feel is the key to my success.”Asked about his team’s preparations to bowl against a batting line-up of India’s quality on pitches that are expected to play on the slower side, Holder reiterated what players and coaches from both sides have already stressed: the need for patience.”The name of Test cricket is discipline, when it comes to bowling,” he said. “Where we fell down in the past is not being as disciplined as we would like. We’ve stressed discipline and being patient for longer periods. We come in and string together a good session but we tend to falter or fall off going deeper into the day. So far, what I’ve seen in the nets I’m really, really pleased. The bowlers look good and we need to transfer that into the game.”

وأوضح: “المفروض هناك ترتيب لتسديد ركلات الترجيح، أبو جبل قرر يُسدد عندما وجد مهند لاشين لا يريد أن يُسدد، الاختيارات خطأ من البداية، حتى في حراسة المرمى، اختيار أحمد الشناوي المصاب ومحمد صبحي الذي لا يُشارك مع الزمالك”.

واستطرد عبد الفتاح: “محمد الشناوي إصابته ستستغرق أكثر من 3 أشهر، وليس كما أعلن، تتذكرون إن أحمد شوبير اعتزل بسبب نفس الإصابة”.

وواصل: “مصطفى شوبير لو كان خرج إعارة كان ذلك سيمثل فارق معه، كان يجب أن يكون في رؤية له وأن يخرج للإعارة لأن في الموقف الحالي كان سيكون جاهزًا، لكني أرى الآن أن يُشارك مصطفى شوبير بدلًا من الشناوي، ولا يتعاقد الأهلي مع حارس أخر، وعلي لطفي يعود بديلًا”.

What's the latest Spurs manager news?

Spurs are ever so slowly whittling down their long list of managerial candidates from the last fortnight, with former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann out of contention among others.

The likes of Vincent Kompany (Burnley) and Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso were also of interest to chairman Daniel Levy, but both managers have recently committed their long term futures.

The Lilywhites are rumoured to be targeting Sporting Lisbon's head coach Ruben Amorim, Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and Slot as a result – with Celtic's Ange Postecoglou also under real consideration.

Levy is reportedly stepping up his chase for a new manager with key meetings scheduled in the coming days, and as the summer transfer window approaches, this could be good news for Spurs supporters.

Going back to Slot, there has been an update on Spurs' strong links to the Dutchman courtesy of Sky reporter Di Marzio, who shared news on his personal website.

The transfer journalist claims "positive contacts" have been held with Feyenoord's coach, fresh off his first ever Eredivisie title win, and he's now a "serious candidate" who "could eventually beat the competition from the other profiles".

Not much is said after this revelation, but Di Marzio's update will be promising for sections of the Spurs fanbase who wish to see Slot succeed Antonio Conte.

Who is Arne Slot?

The Dutchman has been very impressive for Feyenoord, not only guiding them to a title win this season, but also nearly clinching a UEFA Europa Conference League title last year.

Slot narrowly lost out to Jose Mourinho's Roma but all the signs of an exciting, young and hungry tactician are certainly there.

Media members from his homeland, like Netherlands football journalist Marcel van der Kraan, are in no doubt over Slot's huge potential and attacking style.

The 44-year-old has drawn comparisons to Man City manager Pep Guardiola, with van der Kraan claiming to talkSPORT he imposes a similar style.

“He is very similar to Pep Guardiola, his ideas are very similar, he is a massive fan of Pep and he plays the same time."

“He goes ultra-attacking, he is almost like a maniac. Not on the touchline but it is fantastic to see how he has turned an average side into a wonderful attacking machine."

Van der Kraan also branded Slot the "most exciting" manager he's seen in the last 10 years.

The signing of Kieran Dowell from Norwich City could just be the start for Rangers in the summer transfer window, according to a promising update from journalist Dean Jones.

Has Dowell joined Rangers?

Michael Beale will be well aware of the importance of the upcoming window, in terms of narrowing the gap between his Gers side and bitter adversaries Celtic. The Gers have battled hard all season long, in various completions, but have ended up coming up short in all of them.

For that reason, numerous new faces need to come in and enhance both the starting lineup and squad depth at Beale's disposal, making them a more fearsome proposition in the process.

Rangers have already made inroads in the transfer market, completing the signing of Dowell from Norwich earlier this week, with the midfielder enjoying a good 2022/23 campaign for the Canaries. The £7,500-a-week former Everton man scored five goals and chipped in with three assists in the Championship, proving to be an important squad figure.

The 25-year-old is someone who could make a big difference in the middle of the park, and his human qualities have been highlighted in the past, with Sheffield United fans describing his work with a terminally-ill young Blades supporter as "amazing" during his time at the club.

Could Dowell be the first of many signings?

Speaking to Give Me Sport, transfer expert Jones talked up Rangers' chances of snapping up more signings this summer after the arrival of Dowell:

"We know Beale has big plans for the summer. We could see five or six signings, so maybe this is one of the first."

While Dowell looks like a shrewd signing by Rangers this summer, it is also clear that more additions are required, if they are to get back to being Scottish Premiership champions, as was the case back in 2020/2021.

Depth all over the pitch is needed, with youngster Archie Brown a rumoured new target at left-back, for example, and as Jones alludes to, five or six new faces would aid Beale's ambitions and enhance their chances of future glories.

Dowell is certainly a good start, however, with the Englishman someone who has won 16 caps for both England's Under-21s and Under-20s sides, not to mention making five appearances for Everton during his time as a youngster, and appearing 21 times in the Premier League in total, showing that he can perform at the top level.

Shan Masood all but confirmed his place in the Pakistan side for the third Test at Edgbaston with a patient half-century in the tour game against Worcestershire.Masood, who has looked less than immoveable at the top of the order in the Test series, came into the game under a little pressure, but easily out-scored his most obvious rival for a spot, Sami Aslam, and has almost certainly done enough to retain his spot.That news may not cause any sleepless nights for James Anderson. He has dismissed Masood, who has scored 71 in four innings this series, in all six innings in which they have confronted one another in Test cricket and on four of those occasions he has failed to pass 2.But here, confronted by a modest attack and a painfully slow pitch being used for the second time in a week (it was described by Azhar Ali as “a very tired pitch”), he took the opportunity to gain some time at the crease and build some confidence with a determined innings that belied the low-key nature of this two-day contest.There was one nervous moment early on when he played and missed at Charlie Morris on 1 and another on 52 when Morris put down a tough chance at backward square leg off George Rhodes’ offspin. But in between times he demonstrated patience – he did not score his second run until his 27th delivery and it took him 124 balls to reach his half-century – some familiar nicely timed strokes off his legs and one pleasing off-drive against the medium pace of Alex Hepburn.Aslam may reflect that he has not been given the best opportunity to shine on this tour. He is captain in this game in place of the rested Misbah-ul-Haq and has also endured a modest start to the series – he has scored 39 in four innings – but here he looked a class above in making an accomplished 81 that included a straight six off Rhodes and a slogged four through midwicket to bring up his half-century from 103 deliveries. “Teams do work you out in international cricket,” he said afterwards when asked about England’s bowlers exploiting his habit of falling over towards the off side. “You need to cope with it.”While Worcestershire are close to full strength – Brett D’Oliverira, who has just signed a three-year contract extension with the club, and Ben Cox and Joe Leach, who have both played every game this season, were the only three rested – this was a used surface and their attack is a good deal more sedate than the one Pakistan will experience at Edgbaston next week. Three of them – Rhodes, Hepburn and Alexei Kervezee – have nine first-class wickets between them, while Ed Barnard is just 20.Barnard can bowl, though. He produced a beauty to account for Azhar- the ball reversed just enough to clip the top of off stump – and, as he grows and strengthens, looks as if he could be a good prospect.The decision to rest Cox provided an opportunity for Joe Clarke, arguably the most talented 20-year-old batsman in England, to keep wicket and although he fumbled a couple of times, he took a nice catch to end Masood’s innings as the batsman skipped down the pitch, was beaten by some turn and edged his attempted drive.That allowed Mohammad Rizwan to compile an unbeaten 49 full of elegant strokes – his late cut and sweep, in particular – and Iftikhar Ahmed, whose first scoring stroke was a slightly mis-hit six off Kervezee, to make an unbeaten 41 in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 80 before the declaration. Younis Khan, slightly surprisingly given his form, was rested but batted in the nets. This two-day game does not have first-class status so there is some potential for the teams to change on the second day, though both sides have said they will resist that temptation.Meanwhile, Mohammad Hafeez worked with Carl Crowe, the former county spinner turned coach, in the nets. Crowe helped Sunil Narine re-model his action after it was deemed illegal and is trying to help Hafeez through a similar process now. As yet, though, there is no re-test booked for Hafeez and, until there is, he cannot be cleared to bowl in a match. As a result, it seems there is no chance of him bowling in the third Test and very little in the final Test.
