Taking part in a national academy tournament in Australia the South African youngsters put together a full team effort that had the better of the Australians.Winning the toss and batting first Maurice Aronstam and Gerhard Strydom put on an opening partnership of 96 when Strydom fell for 49. The foundation had been laid, and when Aronstam left the wicket on 84 the South Africans were well on their way with 208/3 after 44 overs.Contributions from captain Alviro Pieterson, scoring 28, and David Jacobs, scoring 33, helped the team to reach 253/7 at the completion of the 50 overs.A solid start from the Australians was halted by the regular fall of wickets. The Australian top-order all reached 20’s and 30’s but were not allowed to build on that with the South Africans maintaining the pressure. A run out from David Jacobs tilting the scales in favour of South Africa.At 147/6 the Australians still had a chance of a win needing 107 in 111 balls but the left arm fast bowler Brent Kops soon wrapped up the innings taking 3/52. The Australians were bowled out for 227 in the 47th over. Kops was ably assisted by all the bowlers and especially Morne van Vuuren returning figures of 10-3-21-1.The win puts into perspective the value the UCBSA has placed on the development of cricket in South Africa. The Academy has grown in stature from its beginnings in 1995, producing current national players like Mark Boucher, Makhaya Ntini, Jacques Kallis, Lance Klusener, Paul Adams, Roger Telemachus, Nicky Boje and Justin Ontong.Beating the Australian Academy, generally regarded as the best and strongest academy in world cricket, will mean a lot to not only the players, but also to the coaches and administrators who have invested so many hours of their time in South African cricket.According to Anton Ferriera, Director of Coaching for the UCBSA, the win shows that the youngsters are competing against the best, and when you compete you will win a fair share of your games. “This tournament, only confirmed three weeks before the players left, is a stepping stone in the players careers and a huge part of their cricket education”. He added: “The experience they will pick up on a tour like this will stand them in good stead in the future. It is very important for these 19 and 20 year olds to experience cricket outside of the domestic season. I have little doubt that some of them will play international cricket in the future”.

Ídolo de Palmeiras, Cruzeiro e Coritiba no futebol brasileiro, Alex não conseguiu desempenhar o seu melhor futebol quando desembarcou para defender as cores do Flamengo. Contratado como estrela em 2000, o ex-meia voltou a falar de sua breve e frustrante passagem pelo clube carioca. E explicou o insucesso:

-Nós entramos no período de férias, e o Flamengo ia começar a organizar o time de 2001. Aí vem a parte mais louca: eu fui jogador do Flamengo em agosto, setembro, outubro, novembro e dezembro de 2000, ia dar cinco meses e o Flamengo não tinha me pago nada nesse período – disse, em entrevista ao quadro “Fã de Esporte Entrevista”, do canal ESPN Brasil, completando:

Rescindi o contrato com o Flamengo, voltei a ser jogador do Parma, que me emprestou para o Palmeiras.

Recrutado no mesmo período que Denílson, Alex atuou apenas em12 jogos e marcou três gols pelo Flamengo. Apesar de brilhar no futebol nacional e ter feito a sua história com a Seleção Brasileira, o antigo camisa 10 teve a sua passagem mais longeva na Turquia, mais precisamente noFenerbahçe, onde é tido por muitos como o maior ídolo do clube deIstambul.

“Eu era jogador do Parma e fui emprestado para o Flamengo de agosto de 2000 até julho de 2001, quando eu teria que retornar à Itália. Pela situação da Seleção, eu fui para os Jogos Olímpicos de Sydney, que foram em setembro de 2000. Então, eu só cheguei ao Flamengo de fato em outubro. Isso é até maluco, porque eu joguei a Olimpíada como jogador do Flamengo. Aí eu jogo outubro e novembro pelo time. Era a Copa João Havelange, que classificava oito equipes para o mata-mata, e o Flamengo não se classifica.

Aí vem a parte mais louca da história: o Flamengo me devia cinco meses de contrato, e o presidente falou: “Eu te libero se você abrir mão de R$ 100 mil” (risos). Manchester United are closing in on the signature of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane following a lengthy pursuit.

What’s the story?

According to Madrid magazine MadridistaReal, the Red Devils are just hours away from completing the purchase of the 28-year-old, with an agreement between the two clubs expected to be reached imminently.

They tweeted: “It is a matter of hours before United and Madrid reach an agreement for the transfer of Varane. The Frenchman is leaving, but he wants to do it in a pleasant way and very grateful to the club and Real Madrid.”

Fans will be buzzing

United have been linked with the World Cup-winning centre-back since Sir Alex Ferguson’s time in the Old Trafford dugout, so supporters must be buzzing to hear that he’s finally set to arrive on English shores.

Over the last decade, Varane has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world, making 360 appearances for Real Madrid, winning four Champions League crowns, three La Liga titles and one Copa del Rey along the way. He also lifted the World Cup with France in 2018.

He established a formidable partnership with Sergio Ramos during his time at the Bernabeu, but both halves of the dependable duo appear to be set for pastures new after the ageing Spaniard joined Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer.

Varane’s arrival at United will be seen as a significant coup for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. The 20-time English champions conceded more goals than any of their top-four rivals last season, highlighting the need for reinforcements at the back.

With Varane’s pace, world-class ability and experience at the highest level, Red Devils captain Harry Maguire may have the perfect partner next season, and Solskjaer will surely be aiming to secure his first piece of silverware as manager.

If United get this deal over the line and announce the arrival of Jadon Sancho, then the expectation to compete for major honours will grow even further.

Finishing in a Champions League qualification spot will no longer be deemed a successful season by the club’s hierarchy or by the fanbase, so 2021/22 could be a crucial campaign in Solskjaer’s managerial career.

وأضاف: “نتخذ منهج بشأن معاقبة الجماهير التي تحضر المباراة ويصدر منها تجاوزات، ولن تكون هناك عقوبات عامة على جماهير الأندية”.

وأردف: “صدر قرار بإيقاف حركة المدربين بين أندية الدوري الممتاز خلال هذا الموسم بتوصية من رابطة الأندية، ومن بداية الموسم الجديد سيكون هناك صيغة للائحة تضمن حقوق الأندية والمدربين”.

وتابع: “كان هناك استفسارات من الأندية بشأن موعد نهاية الدوري مقارنة بمواعيد الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم، أريد أن أوضح أن كل موسم له بداية ونهاية ونحن منذ 3 أو 4 مواسم نلعب خارج المواعيد الرسمية”.

واستكمل: “سنرسل لـ فيفا موعد نهاية الموسم الحالي ولكن لكي نرسل له لابد أن نضع تاريخ أخر مباراة في الموسم، وهذا سينعكس على تعاقد اللاعبين مع الأندية”.

واختتم: “وإذا كان عقد لاعب مع النادي مكتوب فيه ينتهي بنهاية الموسم فسيستفيد النادي من هذا البند”.
