Had given my 100% on Test debut – Pankaj

If you speak to Pankaj Singh about being distinctly unlucky during his debut Test match against England in Southampton, he will tell you what captain MS Dhoni told him during the tour

Pankaj Singh: ‘There was a bit of disappointment [on Test debut] but I had given my 100%. The figures obviously didn’t reveal the true picture of my bowling’•Getty Images

Pankaj Singh might not be best pacer India has ever produced, but no one can question the commitment of the Rajasthan bowler. If you speak to Pankaj about being distinctly unlucky during his debut Test match against England in Southampton, he will tell you what captain MS Dhoni told him during the tour.”After I didn’t get a wicket on my debut, people sympathised with me and [I] earned the tag of ‘unlucky Pankaj’, but MS told me that there is nothing called ‘lucky’ or ‘unlucky’. It matters how honest your effort was, and I have no complaints regarding that,” Pankaj told , on the sidelines of the Duleep Trophy final.Pankaj, who is trying hard to give Central Zone some hope after picking up three wickets against a challenging South Zone batting line-up, still looks back with disappointment at his no-show (0-179) on Test debut. “Obviously, there was a bit of disappointment but I had given my 100%. The figures obviously didn’t reveal the true picture of my bowling.”He got two wickets in the next Test match at the Old Trafford but wasn’t exactly happy having got the wickets late. “It wasn’t exactly satisfying as I got wickets at the end of the innings. Also it wasn’t classical fast-bowler’s wickets. I am hopeful that I will be considered for selection during Australian tour.”On being considered a bowler best suited for longer formats, Pankaj said that he is not here to change perceptions. “Look, I can’t change perceptions of people who think I can’t bowl with the white ball. In my hand, there’s only one thing [to control] and that is to perform. I will try to perform wherever I get a chance,” said Pankaj, who will be leading Rajasthan in the domestic one-dayers, the Vijay Hazare Trophy.Having toiled hard on unresponsive Indian tracks, Pankaj sees this as a challenge rather than a difficulty. “I am happy to pick wickets on a batting track, as that gives me more satisfaction. That’s where the challenge lies.”Making an impression for Central Zone on a day that belonged to South’s KL Rahul, Pankaj felt that the ball was doing a bit in the last session today. “It was a challenge to bowl on this track but during one particular phase the ball was reversing,” he said.

Aqui é a Libertadores.

‘(A classificação) vai me fazer mudar muita coisa.

Bravo-Hinds battle intensifies in email exchange

The growing impasse between West Indies players and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) has intensified with both sides exchanging bitter emails in the past week

Nagraj Gollapudi15-Oct-2014

Dwayne Bravo and the West Indies players have continued to voice their displeasure over a revised pay structure•BCCI

The growing impasse between West Indies players and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) has intensified with both sides exchanging bitter emails in the past week. After Wavell Hinds, who has been the direct target of the players’ ire, vehemently refused to step down from his dual positions as WIPA president and chief executive, the players fired fresh salvos against him via a two-part letter highlighting the discrepancies in his response. The biggest bone of contention between the warring factions is related to the issue of sponsorship payment that Hinds claimed all the West Indies players had agreed to forego towards enhancing the pay structure of 90 regional first-class cricketers during the WIPA annual general meeting on February 1 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.Hinds was responding to a letter signed by West Indies ODI captain Dwayne Bravo on behalf of the players, who alleged that Hinds had “hoodwinked” them by signing a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) which amounted to taking a massive pay cut.The proposal to forego the sponsorship fee was presented by WIPA director Michael Hall, who asked of the “players on the West Indies team to be an agent of change and give up his daily sponsorship money to help professionalize first class cricket,” according to the minutes of the AGM as seen by ESPNcricinfo. In his letter, dated October 8, Hinds started with a bold stroke: “I am compelled to first refute in the strongest possible manner all of your previous assertions claiming ignorance on the part of the “senior players” regarding the proposal to discontinue the payment of $35,000 per day of cricket for the benefit of members of the senior West Indies team, and the reallocation of these monies to help to fund retainer contracts for an additional ninety (90) members of WIPA.”Hinds said Bravo, along with senior West Indies players Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan having “participated in a lively and lengthy discussion” on the issue had expressed “100% support for the initiative” and authorised the WIPA executive to go forward with the “resolution”. That move, Hinds said, “was passed by majority vote of the members present on the floor. The minutes also reflect the only qualification to your support, which was to ask that the current WIPA executive make every effort to ensure that the shortfall in revenue accruing from the reallocation, be made up in other areas of player remuneration.”But Bravo expressed complete surprise that such a resolution was indeed passed, which he noted in the first part of his response, sent on October 10 to Hinds. “There is no mention whatsoever of such a vote taking place and that is in keeping with what persons attending that meeting have said,” Bravo said, referring to the minutes of the meeting as well as having consulted his fellow players present at the AGM.Bravo brought to Hinds’ attention the segment in the minutes of the AGM where he had clearly said that, “he support[ed] 100% the proposal but certain conditions must be discussed, one of them being no pay drop for the senior team and the other salary be raised to compensate the loss of sponsorship fee.”Bravo also pointed out that both Hall and Hinds had said before any final decision was taken that the WIPA would consult WICB to make sure that “to balance of the loss of sponsorship fee, a compromise MUST be reached to EVEN out the difference.” Hinds and Hall, Bravo said, had made it clear that senior players like himself, Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy and Chanderpaul would be kept abreast of the updates. Instead, Bravo claimed the players were always in the dark over the MoU, which they are yet to see.”As is evident from the minutes of the AGM, Mr. Hinds and Mr. Hall promised to provide more information, meet with senior West Indian players, make up the shortfall if the sponsorship were taken away, even out the difference and certain conditions must be discussed one of them being no pay drop and more importantly discuss with the players before any final decision is made,” Bravo wrote. In the second part of his response, sent on October 12, Bravo objected to the fact pointed out by Hinds that under the new agreement with the WICB the players actually stood to earn more. According to Hinds, the players would get a 15% increase in their match fee across the board along with a hike in the retainer contracts ranging from 12.5 to 25%. The Test-match fee had been increased from $5000 to $5750; ODI fee had been hiked from $2000 to $2300 while the Twenty20 International fee was raised from $1500 to $1725.Also, there were two new contract categories being included from this season: Category A+ and Category B+. An A+ player’s retainer would amount to $150,000; Category A players would get $135,000, compared to $120,000 previously; Category B+ players $125,000; Category B players $115,000, compared to $100,000 previously; and Category C players would get $100,000, an increase of $20,000.Bravo said that Hinds’ assertion was “inaccurate.” According to Bravo, the matter was never discussed at the AGM and a perusal of the minutes made that clear.”Yet, you inaccurately stated that we got a 300% increase in match fees when the truth is the players are in fact receiving 90% less from what previously existed in our overall fees,” Bravo wrote. He also wondered why the 25% participation fee paid to the players by the WICB for playing in various ICC tournaments was erased completely. “To cut the participation fee from players who play at ICC events from 25% to zero is unbelievable.”Mr. Hinds, we have asked for a comparative analysis of what the players earned last contractual year and what they would earn given this new purported MOU. Instead you have presented figures to signal that WIPA got an increase for the players. This is not correct. We once again call on you to provide this comparison,” Bravo wrote, concluding a third part of his response would be sent soon.

Easy wins for Lahore Lions and Lahore Eagles

A round-up of matches from the third match-day of the One Day National Cup Division Two 2010-11

ESPNcricinfo staff18-Jan-2011Group A
Lahore Lions handed Hyderabad Hawks a hammering at the United Bank Limited Sports Complex in Karachi, winning by 222 runs. It was complete dominance by Lahore Lions as they scored 304 and then rolled over Hyderabad for 82. Their batting effort was led by opener Abid Ali and former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf, who has been excluded from the national squad for the 2011 World Cup. Ali made 86 and Yousuf 81 off 76 as Lahore Lions reached 228 for 1. Even though they lost wickets towards the end of the innings, a quick, unbeaten 31 by Mohammad Saad took them past the 300-run mark. Hyderabad’s chase was doomed for the start as seamer Asif Ashfaq took three early wickets and they collapsed to 18 for 4. Legspinner Tanzeel Altaf ran through the rest of Hyderabad’s line-up, finishing with 4 for 21 as Hyderabad’s innings lasted only 25.3 overs. It was another one-sided game at the National Stadium in Karachi, as Karachi Zebras beat Quetta Bears by 198 runs. Karachi reached 344, with Khalid Latif scoring 127 off 108 balls and Akbar-ur-Rehman getting 77 off 48. Quetta lost their last seven wickets for 37 and were bowled out for 146 in 33.2 overs. Akbar-ur-Rehman followed up his half-century with four wickets with his seamer and spinner Atif Maqbool took 3 for 18.Group B
Lahore Eagles eased to their second win of the tournament, beating Pakistan Television by seven wickets at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground. Legspinning allrounder Saad Nasim starred with a five-for, undermining half-centuries from wicketkeeper Fayyaz Ahmed and Yasim Murtaza, who had put together 70 runs for the seventh wicket and rescued their team from 96 for 6. Pakistan Television could only manage 201, which was easily overhauled. Useful contributions from opener Hamza Paracha and Kashif Nizami backed up an unbeaten 74 from Usman Salahuddin. He added an unbeaten 77 with captain Intikhab Alam to seal victory with 31 balls to spare.Peshawar Panthers opened their account in the competition with a 20-run win in a low-scoring encounter against Abbottabad Falcons at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar. The hosts were put in and skittled out for 146, with only opener Haroon Ahmed offering any significant resistance. He played out 86 deliveries for his 57, and while Mahfooz Sabri made a quick 20. For Abbottabad, seamers Junaid Khan and Aziz-ur-Rehman shared seven wickets, but in vain. Barring opener Fawad Khan’s 56, and Junaid’s 29 way down the order, the rest of the Abbottabad batting crumbled as Riaz Afridi led Peshawar’s charge with four wickets. The bowlers ran through the line-up to shut the visitors out for 126.

O jogo começou morno no Allianz Parque.

Estreia positiva

Felipe Melo…
O volante fazia boa atuação no meio-campo.

Mushfiqur, Mahmudullah keep Bangladesh alive

Mushfiqur Rahim and the embattled Mahmudullah dragged Bangladesh out of wretchedness, putting together their best day on tour so far

The Report by Mohammad Isam08-Sep-2014
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsFor the second time in the match, Mominul Haque was out with replays unable to tell if he had edged the ball or not•WICB

Ambrose pleased with bowling effort

About the bowling on the fourth day
“I thought the bowlers bowled well in tough conditions. The pitch isn’t really conducive for fast bowling… a commendable effort on the part of the bowlers, but I thought we could have been much better, we could have bowled them out or at least been eight down if we had taken the chances that came our way.
On Shannon Gabriel
“I thought he bowled extremely quick on a very slow pitch, and he hasn’t got any wickets to show for his efforts, but I thought he bowled very well and with a bit of luck he could have picked up a few, he’s a little bit disappointed he didn’t take any wickets but I keep telling him that you are bowling well, it is only a matter of time before the luck will come your way. I’m quite impressed with him.”
On Sulieman Benn
“I thought he bowled very well, he is very, very competitive for a spin bowler, I always say to him that if he was a fast bowler, he would have been a dangerous man, I asked him before he took the field if he ever take ten wickets in a Test match, he said, ‘No,’ so I tell him this is the opportunity to take ten, he’s got two so far in the second innings, still a way to go, so I’m hoping he can get ten and bowl the team to victory.”

Mushfiqur Rahim and the embattled Mahmudullah dragged Bangladesh out of wretchedness, putting together their best day on tour so far. The visitors ended the fourth day 46 runs short of West Indies after being asked to follow on.From the precipice of 107 for 4, when Bangladesh were staring down a trail of collapse similar to the first innings, the fifth-wicket pair added 130 runs. More important than the runs, Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah batted out time, 50.5 overs to be precise. It didn’t promise complete security but it brought Bangladesh back into the contest. They didn’t lose a wicket in the middle session and even after Mahmdullah’s dismissal, Mushfiqur, unbeaten on 70, and Nasir Hossain ensured they went to the final day with five wickets in hand. The home side had themselves to blame, at least with their catching. Mushfiqur was dropped on 10 and 25 by Chris Gayle at first slip and Darren Bravo at gully. Kirk Edwards dropped a sitter at cover when Mahmudullah skied Gayle in the 80th over of the innings. At that moment, most of the West Indies players in the close-in cordon reacted strongly. The fielding denied the good work of the fast bowlers who tested the Bangladesh batsmen quite regularly. Kemar Roach and Jerome Taylor, who suffered one drop each, used swing and the angles very well. Shannon Gabriel wasn’t just brawn as he pushed up the pace and used his height. But the trio ended the day without a wicket among them.Left-arm spinner Suleiman Benn threatened with two early wickets but Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah dealt with him positively, not overattacking but keeping him at bay. They nullified the danger of the part-timer Jermaine Blackwood by attacking him, ensuring there were no more embarrassing moments. After the tea interval, Mahmudullah reached his first Test fifty in 21 months. He battled hard for most of his 151-ball stay, waiting for opportunities to tuck the ball into the leg-side, where he scored 41 out of his 66 runs.He reached fifty with his best shot of the innings, a back-foot punch through the covers, but his celebration was muted. The shot also brought up the hundred partnership. In the next over, Mushfiqur reached his fifty too, carrying on his assurance from the first innings, when he had been left stranded on 48 as the rest crumbled. Mushfiqur was lucky with dropped catches on two occasions but he battled hard, with Gabriel getting one to lift and hit him on the elbow and Taylor hammering one into the middle finger of his bottom hand.Ramdin dived to his left to take an excellent catch after Mahmudullah inside-edged an attempted drive off Roach with more than ten overs remaining. Mushfiqur soldiered on and ensured that the dangerous period, with Nasir new at the crease, was negotiated safely.Bangladesh’s progress till the lunch break was quite similar to how the first innings panned out. Their first wicket fell off the second ball of the third over, as it did in the first innings. There was a partnership thereafter but the next wicket fell in the eighties, as did the third wicket on the third day. They had been 105 for 4 at tea yesterday; today they were 110 for 4 at lunch.Shamsur Rahman was the first wicket to fall in the morning session. Stuck at the crease, he edged Kemar Roach’s full delivery to Ramdin, who held it tidily, moving to his right.Imrul Kayes, under pressure after falling cheaply on the third day, struck three boundaries off Roach soon after arriving at the crease. But Roach soon went around the wicket, forcing Tamim Iqbal and Imrul play and miss on several occasions, swinging the ball into the left-handers and straightening a few.Tamim batted calmly, finding boundaries fairly easily. The pair added a half-century partnership, which used to be a fairly regular occurrence when they used to open together. This though was their first 50-plus stand for the second wicket. But Imrul had stalled by then, and struck one more boundary before he gave the cover fielder an easy catch off a Chris Gayle floater in the 26th over. Just prior to the delivery, Gayle had asked the batsman why he had defended the two previous balls, half-volleys both.Tamim, having reached an enterprising half-century in 83 balls, fell when Benn got the ball to turn back at him and crash into his stumps as he looked to punch through cover. Tamim struck four fours and three sixes, and looked fluent for most of his innings, which lasted two hours and 23 minutes.Mominul wasn’t as organised as during the first innings half-century. He had one close shave when a forward defensive against Benn trickled onto his pads and bounced away near the stumps. He was dismissed soon after, when the same bowler got one to dip between his bat and pad. Mominul played away from his body, and Ramdin immediately appealed, convinced there was an inside edge. Umpire Marais Erasmus agreed, and Mominul reviewed. Once again, due to a lack of evidence, the umpire’s decision stood – just as it had when Mominul had been given out caught behind down the leg side in the first innings.
