S Badrinath, the Tamil Nadu batsman, has been called up to the India squad for the Tests against New Zealand as a replacement for VVS Laxman. Laxman, who was in the 15-man squad for the two-Test series, announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect on Saturday.Badrinath, 31, has played two Tests for India, the last being in early 2010 in the home series against South Africa. He has a Test best of 56 in his three innings. His most recent international appearance was during the limited-overs leg of India’s tour of the West Indies last summer.A consistent performer on the domestic circuit, Badrinath was the highest run-getter in the 2010-11 Ranji Trophy, where he amassed 922 runs at 131.71. However, he had a middling 2011-12 season: he had picked up a shoulder injury during the Challenger Trophy in October last year and, as a result, missed the first three rounds of the Ranji Trophy. When he returned, he scored 292 runs in nine innings.When Rahul Dravid retired in March, Badrinath’s name floated around as a possible replacement for him in the India Test middle-order. But, at that point, a BCCI official had told ESPNcricinfo that the odds were against Badrinath. “Not only is he 30-plus, but he has been tested already,” the official said. “He is a good player at domestic level but unfortunately does not seem to fit at the highest level.”

Douglas adds that this is problematic for Ashley, as he wants the value that he has put on the Magpies to be consistent.

If the KSA consortium were to pull out of the deal altogether, then other potential investors may not want to buy at the price that he has set.

It is key that if there is a takeover of the Toon, then it is by the KSA consortium, to satisfy all parties involved.

For Ashley, he would then be able to sell at the valuation that he has put on NUFC, and the consortium would then be able to take over as per their aim.

There would certainly be question marks over whether the chief executive of Sports Direct would consider selling to anyone else if the consortium pulled out altogether, especially if nobody is willing to meet his original valuation.

Nonetheless, with Newcastle’s value depreciating, Ashley will want to get the deal done as soon as possible in order to get his money’s worth.

Na última segunda-feira, o Conselho Deliberativo aprovou as duas chapas que concorrerão à presidência do Palmeiras, em 24 de novembro. O atual presidente conta com o apoio da patrocinadora e conselheira Leila Pereira e, consequentemente, da maioria do CD. Genaro, com uma chapa baseada na gestão de Paulo Nobre, tem também apoio da ala ligada a Mustafá Contursi. Embora tenha perdido força política ultimamente, o ex-presidente segue influente no Conselho Deliberativo.

A chapa de Galiotte é totalmente diferente em relação à atual: os vice-presidentes serão Paulo Roberto Buosi, Décio Perin, Alexandre Zanotta, José Eduardo Luz Caliari. Genaro Marino, Victor Fruges e José Carlos Tomaselli foram para a oposição, enquanto Antonino Jesse Ribeiro, ainda que não mantenha o cargo, segue aliado a Maurício.

Os oposicionistas são todos ex-diretores na gestão Paulo Nobre entre 2013 e 2016: José Carlos Tomaselli, Ricardo Galassi, Luis Henrique Fronterotta e Guilherme Gomes Pereira. O ex-mandatário, rompido com Maurício, dará apoio a Genaro neste processo eleitoral.

The Foxes could only post a disappointing 218 for 8 despite a brilliant unbeaten 83 from 18-year-old Shiv Thakor, while Lancashire’s veteran seamer, Glen Chapple, claimed 4 for 46 – his best return for six years in the 40-over game.An opening stand of 108 in 17 overs between Moore and Prince gave Lancashire the perfect start, with Moore dominating the early stages of the innings scoring 36 of the 48 runs that came off the first power play. He reached 50 off 46 balls – his fifth in seven games – but was then caught at cover off medium pacer Michael Thornely for 60. Prince reached his half century off 62 balls with two fours plus a six off Thakor, but holed out to mid-wicket having hit 85 off 89 balls.Two wickets in successive balls from Taylor brought a brief halt to Lancashire’s progress but Croft saw them home with an unbeaten 57 off 58 balls.Thakor, who has just taken his A-levels, was the star turn of Leicestershire’s innings in his first game in the competition this season, after the Foxes had plunged to 68 for 4 in 16 overs. Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive James Sutherland has said Australia will ‘need to adjust to’ the conditions in the UAE for their upcoming series against Pakistan, but the required adjustment will not be ‘that significant’.Australia are set to play three Twenty20s and three ODIs in the UAE in in August and September, with the matches beginning in the late evening to avoid the worst of the daytime heat. The heat and the decision to start the one-dayers at 6pm – meaning the scheduled finish is 1.45am – continue to be an issue with the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) though.”It’ll be hot, but the sun’s not going to be shining and that’s probably the really important factor there,” Sutherland told . “In terms of the hours, it’s not ideal but at the same time it’s just an adjustment that the players will need to [make]. It’s the same for both teams.”There are many people in the world who work different hours and these will be different hours for our players, unconventional hours for cricket perhaps. But the game’s only going a couple of hours later than it would ordinarily, so I’m not sure that adjustment is really that significant.”CA officials will visit the UAE next week, to assess the conditions. There had been much debate over the actual make-up of the series, which is a ‘home’ series for Pakistan. The ACA had expressed its concerns about playing ODIs in such hot weather, prompting the series to be changed to a six-match Twenty20 affair, which was approved by the ICC in June. However, the PCB then approached the Australian board, putting forward a request to review the composition of the series once again. ESPNcricinfo understands that the series’ broadcaster had objected to six Twenty20s for commercial reasons. The new schedule was announced by the PCB earlier this month.The venue of the series had also been an issue. It was initially scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka but Pakistan were forced to search for an alternate venue after Sri Lanka backed out in May, citing the clash in the dates with the inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League.
