Writing for the Daily Express, journalist Archie Griggs has told Tottenham Hotspur to sign striker Ollie Watkins as a potentially perfect Harry Kane replacement should he leave north London – explaining that he has all the attributes to thrive under manager Jose Mourinho.

Kane’s future has been at the centre of much speculation linking him with a move away from Spurs as he could stand a better chance of winning silverware.

Manchester City, as relayed by the Express, are currently touted with heavy interest in the Englishman – but Griggs has pinpointed Watkins as a perfect successor should the 27-year-old leave.

Scoring 10 goals and assisting three others in the Premier League so far this season (WhoScored), Watkins also enjoyed an historic landmark in his career at Wembley Stadium against San Marino – netting his first goal for England just 20 minutes after coming on for his debut on Thursday evening.

Graeme Smith, South Africa’s Test captain, will undergo surgery on his left ankle that has been troubling him with chronic pain over the previous two months. The decision was arrived at after consultation with Cricket South Africa’s ankle specialist, who detected an impingement syndrome of the ankle, South Africa team manager Mohammad Moosajee said.”Graeme went to see CSA’s ankle specialist in Cape Town on Friday and he confirmed that the best management of the chronic pain in his ankle is surgery,” Moosajee said in a CSA release. “The recovery period after such a surgery usually takes eight to ten weeks, and he will subsequently not be able to represent Pune Warriors at the 2012 edition of the Indian Premier League in India.”The surgery will be performed next Tuesday, to allow Smith enough time to make a full recovery in time for South Africa’s tour of England in July. “My ankle has been troubling me for some time so it will be a relief to have it repaired, especially looking ahead to the crucial year of cricket ahead,” Smith said.”I’m very disappointed to be missing out on the IPL this year. I was looking forward to my second season with Pune Warriors, especially after my knee set me back last season.”Smith had played four games in the 2011 IPL, before an injury to his right knee – picked up during a collision with his team-mate Rahul Sharma while fielding against the now defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala franchise – ruled him out. نجح منتخب الكاميرون في التأهل إلى نصف نهائي كأس أمم إفريقيا 2021، وذلك بعد الفوز على جامبيا بهدفين نظيفين.

وأقيمت المباراة بين المنتخبان على ملعب “جابوما” بمدينة دوالا الكاميرونية، في ربع نهائي كأس أمم إفريقيا 2021.

انتهى الشوط الأول من المباراة بالتعادل السلبي بين المنتخبين، ورغم محاولات الأسود الكاميرونية، لكن الـ45 دقيقة انتهت دون أهداف.

وفي الشوط الثاني من اللقاء، تمكنت الأسود الكاميرونية من التقدم في النتيجة مبُكرًا بعد مُضي 5 دقائق فقط، حيث سجّل مُهاجم فريق أولمبيك ليون، كارل توكو إكامبي، هدف أول في الدقيقة 50، برأسية رائعة.

وجاء الهدف بعد عرضية من كولينز فاي لداخل منطقة الجزاء ارتقى لها إكامبي وضرب الكرة بشكل رائع في شباك مرمى الضيوف.

وواصلت الكاميرون محاولاتها في الدقائق المتبقية من المباراة، وسط غياب تام لعناصر لاعبي منتخب جامبيا، ولكن تألق الحارس هونجلا أوقف أسود الكاميرون.

وتلك هي المرة الأولى مُنذ التي تنجح فيها الكاميرون في التأهل إلى نصف نهائي أمم إفريقيا، مُنذ 5 سنوات، حيث وصلت إلى نصف النهائي في نسخة 2017، وفي عام 2019 ودعت المنافسات من دور الـ16 بعد الهزيمة من نيجيريا 3-2.

وتلتقي الكاميرون في نصف النهائي، مع الفائز من مباراة مصر والمغرب، والتي تُقام غدًا الأحد في ربع النهائي.

كشف مصدر داخل الزمالك، عن حقيقة وجود مفاوضات من قبل إدارة النادي مع اليوناني تاكيس جونياس لتولي قيادة الفريق بدلاً من البرتغالي جوسيفالدو فيريرا.

ويستعد الزمالك لمواجهة الترجي مساء الثلاثاء المقبل في إطار الجولة الرابعة من دور المجموعات لدوري أبطال إفريقيا.

وقال المصدر خلال تصريحات عبر بطولات: “لم نفتح خطوط التفاوض مع تاكيس جونياس، ما قيل عن وجود اتفاق مع المدرب اليوناني غير صحيح”.

لا يرغب نادي مانشستر يونايتد في فقدان لاعبه الدولي الإنجليزي، ماركوس راشفورد، وتركه يرحل بالمجان عن صفوف الفريق، رغم تراجع أدائه مع الشياطين الحمُر مؤخرًا.

وينتهي العقد الحالي لـ راشفورد في مسرح الأحلام “أولد ترافورد” في العام القادم، 30 يونيو 2023.

وتراجع أداء راشفورد بشكل ملحوظ مؤخرًا مع مانشستر يونايتد، الأمر الذي تسبب في وجود تكهنات حول إمكانية استمراره مع اليونايتد.

وحسب شبكة “تريبال فوتبول” الإنجليزية نقًلا عن “ESPN” العالمية، فإن إدارة اليونايتد ترغب في الإبقاء على راشفورد لأطول فترة ممكنة ولن تنتظر حتى الـ6 أشهر الأخيرة من عقده من أجل تمديد بقائه، لتفادي سيناريو الثنائي جيسي لينجارد وبول بوجبا.

بوجبا ولينجارد دخل كلاهما في الأشهر الستة الأخيرة من عقودهما مع يونايتد هذا الشهر ويستعدان للمغادرة بالمجان مع نهاية الموسم الجاري.

وقالت الشبكة إن إدارة اليونايتد واثقة من أن راشفورد سيكون ملتزمًا تجاه مستقبله مع الفريق، لكن فقدان اللاعب لبريقه هو ما يجعل النادي مترددًا بشأن التمديد له.

وأوضحت الشبكة أن مانشستر يونايتد، سيقوم بتفعيل خيار تمديد لـ12 شهرًا متواجد في عقد راشفورد للإبقاء على الإنجليزي حتى نهاية موسم 2023/2024، قبل اتخاذ قرار نهائي بشأن إعطائه عقدًا طويل الأمد.

يُذكر أن ماركوس راشفورد هذا الموسم مع مانشستر يونايتد، شارك في 15 مباراة بمُختلف المسابقات، وسجّل ثلاثة أهداف وصنع هدفًا.

Jamaica’s prime minister Portia Simpson Miller has demanded that a resolution in the impasse between Chris Gayle and the West Indies Cricket Board be found quickly. Speaking at the Jamaica Cricket Association awards, Simpson Miller said that Gayle was being treated unjustly and deserved a place in the West Indies team. She also expressed concern that Sabina Park was not allocated a match for West Indies’ upcoming home one-day and Test series against Australia.”Justice delayed is justice denied and we demand that a resolution be found as quickly as possible,” Simpson Miller said on the Gayle issue. “Cricket is too important to the people of Jamaica and the West Indies for this to be left down the wicket.”Gayle last played for West Indies in the 2011 World Cup, after which a conflict with the WICB has kept him out of the setup. In October 2011, the WICB released a statement saying it would consider Gayle for selection if he retracted statements he had made criticising the board and its officers. The release said the board would appoint a facilitator to assist Gayle in complying with their requirements. Gayle, though, said the WICB needed to be specific about what he was supposed to apologise for. He said the board was playing mind games with him, and that he would consider their request at the end of the Regional Super50 competition.Jamaica won the Regional Super50 with Gayle finishing second on the run-charts. He has continued to collect big runs in Twenty20 competitions and scored his first first-class hundred in over a year, a remarkable innings of 165 off 155 balls out of a total of 298, against Windward Islands earlier this month. However, there have been no significant developments in his relations with the WICB.Simpson Miller spoke about the progress of Jamaican cricket, and the success of its various teams, and emphasised that Sabina Park was a venue that should be hosting matches whenever teams toured the West Indies. “Sabina Park is one the finest stadiums anywhere and I am concerned that Jamaica is not a venue for a Test against Australia.”I understand that the JCA is trying to get one of the games against New Zealand [who are scheduled to tour in July 2012] and you have my support in this. Sabina Park, Jamaica, is suitable for any tour of the West Indies.”Simpson Miller urged the Jamaican board to promote cricket in schools. She also said the WICB had done nothing with the recommendations made by a committee under the chairmanship of former Jamaican prime minister PJ Patterson on how the structure of West Indies cricket could be improved. “You can, however, depend on me as prime minister of Jamaica to follow up on this,” she told members of the JCA. “All of us – players, administrators and fans – have a responsibility to restore this sport, in which we have done so well, to its former glory.”
