Batatinha faz história no Operário-PR e mira acesso à elite do Brasileiro

MatériaMais Notícias

A reconstrução do Operário-PR no cenário nacional chama atenção.

KXIP find elusive win; RCB slip to fifth

Kings XI Punjab secured a 22-run consolation victory, after their bowlers trussed up an explosive Royal Challengers Bangalore top order, in a rain-curtailed 10-overs-a-side contest in Mohali

O’Brien: RCB bowled too full at the start

Kings XI Punjab secured a 22-run consolation victory, after their bowlers trussed up an explosive Royal Challengers Bangalore top order, in a rain-curtailed 10-overs-a-side contest in Mohali. Axar Patel played impactful hands with bat and ball, holding together the back end of the Kings XI innings, before claiming two wickets and conceding only 11 runs from his two overs. Seamers Beuran Hendricks and Anureet Singh also helped defend 106 for 6, which was kickstarted by Wriddhiman Saha’s 31 from 12 balls.Kings XI began their innings at full pelt, as Saha swiped Mitchell Starc to the legside boundary off successive balls in the first over, before carting three fours and a six over long-on to loot 20 from Sreenath Aravind in the second. His dismissal bought Royal Challengers some cheaper overs, followed by two more wickets. Manan Vohra holed out to long-off for 11 in the fifth over, before Glenn Maxwell picked out deep midwicket two balls later, off Harshal Patel.David Miller would help the hosts briefly regain impetus, slamming two towering sixes off the legspin of Yuzvendra Chahal, but got himself stumped off a wide soon after. Axar would see the innings to its conclusion, hitting a six and a four in his 15-ball 20, while George Bailey hit 13 from 9. Kings XI still had enough batsmen to finish more violently, but were curbed by Harshal and Starc, who conceded five and six runs from their final two overs respectively. The fall of the first wicket dampened Royal Challengers’ advance too; Kohli played Anureet onto his stumps after adding 33 off 17 balls with Chris Gayle. Sandeep Sharma had Gayle caught behind soon after, before AB de Villiers also failed to move the chase along falling for 10 from 9 balls.Mandeep Singh gave the visitors some hope, cracking his first ball to the cover fence, then reverse-sweeping Axar for four two overs later. But wickets continued to fall at the other end, and boundary attempts were repeatedly thwarted. The required rate had leapt to 12.66 with three overs to play, but Hendricks delivered a five-run over that claimed a wicket, then Axar removed Mandeep. Royal Challengers had not found the boundary off the last 22 balls, when they ran out of overs, at 84 for 6.

Morgan frustrated but England's new spirit not dampened

Even as England slid towards defeat at The Oval, there remained a thrilling sense of possibility in the air. Sadly, it was intermingled with the rain

‘Duckworth-Lewis needs to evolve’ – Morgan

Even as England slid towards defeat at The Oval, there remained a thrilling sense of possibility in the air. Sadly, it was intermingled with the rain and when the umpires took the players off with a little more than six overs remaining, England seven wickets down and behind on Duckworth-Lewis-Stern, the boos from the crowd were not just because an evening’s entertainment was being curtailed – they carried with them a sense that England were being denied a chance of victory.England’s prospects had begun to look bleak when Eoin Morgan, who made 88 from 47 balls, was one of three wickets to fall in four overs, leaving England on 275 for 7, still 124 from victory. But Adil Rashid and Liam Plunkett kept England in touch with the asking rate, until the point that rain began to fall with 54 required from 37 balls. When the players returned after a 50-minute delay, the equation had been reduced to 34 runs in 2.1 overs. Morgan said the message in the dressing room was “It’s our game to win” but despite Plunkett hitting England’s 14th six of the innings – equalling the record they set in the first ODI at Edgbaston on Tuesday – they eventually fell short.”Considering we got so close in the chase, it’s a little bit disappointing at the end,” Morgan said. “It’s a huge ask, not only to chase down 399 but to have 34 to chase in 13 balls, given that we set it up so deep, the guys were in and the momentum was with us – it was very disappointing that it did rain.”Asked if he thought that England had got the worst of the DLS method – an updated version of the original Duckworth-Lewis formula that was first used at the World Cup – Morgan indicated he thought the system could still produce unsatisfactory results. “I think it happens a lot in T20 cricket, probably not so much in 50-over cricket,” he said, “but I think as the game evolves as it has done, particularly in 50-over cricket, Duckworth-Lewis could be looked at.”Ross Taylor, who scored an unbeaten century as New Zealand piled up 398 for 5 in their 50 overs, said that the break had certainly helped his side, as they held their nerve when the teams got back out to level the series at 1-1.”When we did come off it was probably slightly in our favour, they still would have had to have batted very well,” Taylor said. “But definitely the rain did help us out, coming in and needing 34 off 2.1 overs, it’s a tough ask. The way Plunkett and Rashid batted, got themselves back in the game with a crucial partnership, if the rain didn’t come it could have been a different story.”Despite defeat, there were further encouraging signs for England after their 210-run victory earlier in the week. An 85-run opening stand between Jason Roy and Alex Hales got the innings off to a flying start, before Morgan provided further proof of his improved form during exhilarating partnerships of 63 with Ben Stokes and 96 with Jos Buttler.Morgan, electricity crackling through him as he repeatedly struck the spin of Nathan McCullum and Mitchell Santner over the ropes, was on course to smash the record for England’s fastest one-day hundred when he fell. That England, who will assess the fitness of Chris Jordan after he suffered a side strain while bowling, got so close was down to the sense of freedom – most notably with the bat – that Morgan said made up for the side’s relative inexperience.”We’re enjoying this brand of cricket and certainly having the guys in the changing room to play in that way naturally – not making it such a big deal,” Morgan said. “The guys are quite young, I think Liam Plunkett’s the oldest at 30, so there’s a huge amount of potential and talent to work with. That’s great for any captain and backroom staff.”

Perguntado sobre as seguidas más atuações do time e o ruim desempenho ofensivo, o técnico deu declarações fortes.

Trent Johnston, the former Ireland captain, has been named as the new coach of New South Wales. Johnston had joined New South Wales last September as an assistant to coach Trevor Bayliss, and has now been handed the top job after Bayliss was appointed to lead England.Although best known for his work with Ireland, for whom he played at the 2007 and 2011 World Cups, Johnston was also a former New South Wales player and made his first-class debut for the state in March 1999. After he retired as a player in December 2013 he moved into coaching, initially as head coach of the Ireland women’s team.”The NSW way is to back young talent and we are delighted to offer Trent the opportunity to lead the NSW Blues,” Cricket New South Wales chief executive Andrew Jones said. “I am confident he will be an outstanding success.”Trent is an emerging coach who has performed as a NSW assistant coach and a head coach at the youth, club and inter-provincial level both here and overseas. He is past Blues player with substantial playing and leadership experience and he has formed strong relationships and established credibility with our players since returning to Cricket NSW.”Johnston had taken over in an interim capacity after Bayliss departed, and he said he was looking forward to continuing his work with the squad.”The NSW Blues are about producing Australian players and winning national titles,” Johnston said. “We have a very talented squad ranging from experienced international players to rookies who are at the start of their professional careers. I look forward to helping all of them to achieve our team goals, as well as their personal ones.”This is a very exciting opportunity for me and I am ready to take this next step in my career. I am passionate about cricket, I am passionate about coaching and I am passionate about NSW.”Cricket New South Wales is still searching for a new Sydney Sixers coach, with an announcement expected in August.

Raine seals tie with last-ball wicket

Leicestershire seamer Ben Raine took a wicket with the final ball of the game to secure a tie

Leicestershire seamer Ben Raine took a wicket with the final ball of the game to secure a tie in a game when it looked as though a superbly paced innings in difficult conditions by Jack Leaning had seen Yorkshire to victory. With Leaning watching from the non-striker’s end after scoring 48 from 30 balls, Raine pinned Adil Rashid leg before with a well-pitched up delivery to delight the Grace Road crowd.”It feels like a win, to be honest, because we felt we were 10 to 20 runs short of a competitive total,” said Raine. “But we fought to save every run and took some brilliant catches, and it just goes to show you should never, ever give up.”Badly needing two points to improve their chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals, the Vikings named a side that included England players Jonny Bairstow and Rashid, as well as fit-again Australian opener Aaron Finch, resuming his place at the top of the order after recovering from a bruised lung suffered in a 2nd XI Championship match earlier in the week.Insights

Ben Raine said this felt like a win for Leicestershire and given their position in the match and the table it should. One point for them near the top of the table in a match they seemed set to lose is a bonus. For Yorkshire, who desperately needed a win, this tie could well have killed off any lingering hopes they had of a top four finish. It’s a shame really because Yorkshire have played two strong matches in their last three and are perhaps just beginning to find form.

Leicestershire welcomed back New Zealand international batsman Grant Elliott, as well as destructive Ireland international hitter Kevin O’Brien, a key member of their T20 line-up this season.Andrew Gale chose to bowl first on a slow, low track, and his seamers kept Leicestershire under pressure from the start. Foxes’ skipper Mark Cosgrove holed out to Glenn Maxwell in Matthew Fisher’s first over. Maxwell also took a good low catch running in from deep backward square to see the end of Kevin O’Brien off the bowling of Will Rhodes, and the Vikings continued to take vital wickets, with only Andrea Agathangelou giving the innings any real impetus before being run out for 40.The Foxes bowlers struck back quickly when Clint McKay had Finch leg before for just 2, but Bairstow, in ever increasing gloom, timed the ball superbly, hitting Raine for a six and four off consecutive balls before being bowled by Raine.Maxwell was also threatening to take the game away from Leicestershire when he was brilliantly caught at midwicket by Jigar Naik off the bowling of Ollie Freckingham, and the Foxes continued to fight to save every run.Leaning, though, played with real maturity in placing his shots and running hard, and received good support from Rhodes. Between them they looked to have done enough, but Rhodes was well caught low down by Naik, Richard Pyrah was caught at long-on, and Raine’s final over was good enough to secure the tie.

India crush UAE for their biggest T20I win

There was precious little intent from the UAE batsmen as India marched to a nine-wicket win in a dead rubber in the Asia Cup, their biggest win in T20Is in terms of ball remaining

The Report by Alagappan Muthu in Mirpur03-Mar-2016
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details1:25

India’s seventh consecutive away win

India versus UAE was a no contest. There was precious little intent from the UAE batsmen and all India had to do was go through the motions to gain a nine-wicket victory. It was India’s biggest win in T20Is in terms of balls remaining. There was nothing riding on this game, except perhaps the opportunity for UAE’s batsmen to salvage some pride – putting up 81 for 9 suggests they didn’t accomplish that – and a chance for India to test their bench ahead of the final here and the World T20 back home. Harbhajan Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and debutant Pawan Negi sent down 11 overs and picked up four wickets for only 35 runs between them.MS Dhoni, the India captain, had hoped to bat first at the toss in the hopes of getting his batsmen geared towards setting a total and his side may have felt a little more pressure too. UAE’s seam attack has managed to trouble every team in the tournament so far. Mohammad Naveed lent weight to that when he had Shikhar Dhawan nicking off in his second over, but umpire Sharfuddoula did not spot it. Rohit then got a series of boundaries away to set India on course in their 82-run chase, and even if he did hole out for 39 off 28 balls, it almost ended up helping India because they could give Yuvraj Singh some more time in the middle. He slammed a four to finish on 25 off 14 balls and seal victory with nine wickets and 59 balls to spare. The match was like a lullaby. India, who were asked to bowl, began with two maidens in the first three overs and UAE could only get one run. The usually lively Shere Bangla stadium was fast asleep.Bhuvneshwar struck in his second over, getting makeshift opener Swapnil Patil to lob a catch at him. Jasprit Bumrah, from the other end, chipped in with an early wicket as well when he had Mohammad Shahzad, the No. 3 batsman who showed little footwork, edging to second slip. Suresh Raina plucked a simple enough chance over his head, but the next time the ball headed his way, it burst through his grasp. Rohan Mustafa was the batsman flashing outside his off stump, and Bhuvneshwar, the bowler, had conceded his first runs after 13 deliveries.Twenty-six of the first 36 balls – the Powerplay – were dots. And the progression continued: 44 of the first 60 and finally 77 of the entire 120. UAE racked up 72 dot balls against Pakistan on this very pitch on Monday.Negi was brought into the attack in the 13th over and though there was no real pressure on him, he began with a half-tracker that was pulled for a couple. His second ball was a dart down leg that was swiped for four. He managed to get his first international wicket off his fifth ball, though, as Mohammad Usman scooped a catch to Harbhajan at long-off. Negi was there waiting to return the favour in the next over when Harbhajan tempted Amjad Javed into flicking uppishly towards midwicket. UAE were 57 for 5 in 15 overs.Besides the lack of intent in their batting, UAE betrayed their standing as amateur cricketers with a silly run-out. Fahad Tariq, who came out at No. 7, pushed Negi on to the off side and set off for a single without realising the left-arm spinner only had to move a couple of steps to get to the ball. Shaiman Anwar had seen that and said no, but Tariq had charged too far down to have any hope.An even sillier run-out was in the offing when Mohammad Naveed, unaware the throw was coming towards his end, barely made an attempt to reach his ground. MS Dhoni whipped the bails off and had a rather amused smile on his face as he gestured to his team-mates that Naveed had only plonked his bat down rather than slide it through. The third umpire was called, and replays revealed the tailender had got in by a thin margin.Anwar cobbled together 43 off 48 balls, but he was only one of two batsmen who could manage double-digits and UAE finished their Asia Cup by recording the second-worst total ever in T20Is by any team after batting their full quota of overs and not being all out.
