Jurgen Klopp faces an interesting summer ahead as Liverpool manager as he aims to rejuvenate his squad ahead of another tilt at success next season.

The Anfield club won two trophies last season and came so close to Premier League and Champions League glory but the German constantly wants to improve wherever possible.

One of their key transfer targets in Aurelien Tchouameni appears to be heading to Real Madrid from Monaco, and this could have been a real blow to Liverpool’s ambitions next season.

Klopp is a master of recruitment, though, and this news will have only had a small impact on the 54-year-old before thoughts turn to other targets, and there may be good news when it comes to a midfielder that the Reds are chasing.

Ibrahim Sangare, the PSV Eindhoven midfielder with whom Liverpool have been linked, has said that he believes he will be a Premier League player next season. With his heart set on a move to England, the Reds face competition from Manchester United and Chelsea.

With three years remaining on his contract and a €35m (£29.7m) release clause, it’s a deal which certainly won’t break the bank compared to what Tchouameni would have cost.

The 24-year-old played 38 matches for PSV last season, scoring four goals in total, mainly in a defensive midfield position. Sangare ranked third in the Eredivisie for interceptions with 72, while his 64 tackles was the second-most in the division.

These figures clearly show that his defensive attributes are top-class, and he could fit into Klopp’s midfield with ease alongside someone like Thiago, who could be given licence to go forward more often and pick out deft passes from which the front three can work their magic in the final third.

Former PSV manager Aad de Mos lauded Sangare as “dangerous” recently, and his performances for the Eindhoven club last season allowed him to showcase his abilities, both attacking-wise and defensively.

For just under £30m, it could be a wise investment for Klopp and Liverpool to make.

Nottingham Forest have been promoted back into the Premier League for the first time in 23 years, and now they must use the upcoming transfer window to identify players who can help them maintain their top-flight status, with a new transfer target emerging.

What’s the latest?

According to Italian news outlet Area Napoli, Nottingham Forest are interested in signing SK Dnipro-1 striker Artem Dovbyk this summer.

As per the report, Dovbyk is seriously considering the possibility of a move to the Premier League via Forest.

The Ukrainian forward’s agent has also reportedly confirmed to Sports Arena that the Midlands club are in talks for the player.

Cooper will love him

To compete in the Premier League next season there is no doubt that Steve Cooper will be looking to sign players that can help them achieve their goal of staying up and avoiding relegation in their first campaign, and when you consider Dovbyk’s output this season the Forest boss will surely love him.

The £10m gem who was hailed “fantastic” by journalist Olga Tokariuk has had an impressive season for his Ukrainian side, scoring 14 goals and delivering five assists in just 18 appearances with more goal contributions than games equating to a goal or assist every 79 minutes.

Dovbyk has caught the attention of the world from his performances with his national team Ukraine, his most notable performance coming from Euro 2020 when the striker bagged an extra-time goal against Sweden to take his country to their first-ever quarter-finals in the competition.

Since then, the 24-year-old proved his worth on the world stage yet again at Hampden Park scoring in the semi-final of the World Cup Qualifiers against Scotland in a 3-1 victory, but unfortunately was not able to secure a place in the prestigious competition in Qatar as they were knocked out by Wales this week in the final stage.

Nottingham Forest will be keen to add more depth to the striker role in their team as their current number nine Keinan Davis is set to return to his parent club Aston Villa at the end of this month, so Dovbyk could be the perfect signing to adopt the role in the Premier League next season.

According to Sky Sports injury expert Ben Dinnery, Manchester City could have an agreement in place with Gareth Southgate to make sure that right-back Kyle Walker isn’t too heavily involved whilst on duty with England this month.

The Lowdown: Walker’s injury concerns

The 32-year-old veteran sustained an ankle injury earlier in the season during the Sky Blues’ Champions League quarter-final second leg against Atletico Madrid. Pep Guardiola at one point even confirmed that the £150k-per-week star had been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Despite these fears, the defender managed to make a comeback and was named on the bench for City’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Aston Villa on the final day of the season, which clinched the Manchester outfit the Premier League title in dramatic style.

It was then revealed by the club’s media team just last week that the Sheffield-born talent had been included in the Three Lions squad for their upcoming Nations League games.

The Latest: Dinnery’s agreement claim

Speaking during an interview with Football Insider, Dinnery revealed that he thinks Southgate will be very sensible when it comes to Walker’s game time. He told correspondent Adam Williams:

“He is a very, very fit player.

“We saw that when he returned in the Champions League semi-final. He had done very little training with the group but he put his body on the line.

“Then, after being ruled out for the season, he made a surprise inclusion on the bench for the final day. The time between then and now will certainly have helped him.

Dele will remain in Merseyside next term but he will need to drastically improve on his tally of zero goal involvements for the Toffees.

With that being said, Everton could repeat their disastrous trick of bringing a Tottenham outcast to the club this season. That’s because they’ve now been linked with a move for Harry Winks this summer, who is reportedly valued at £20m by his current club.

To put things simply, it’s another transfer the club should be looking to avoid.

The Spurs midfielder was blasted by Graham Roberts for his performances at his current side, with the former Spurs defender claiming:

“He’s gone Mr Conservative, he plays simple, and if I don’t give the ball away, I’m a great player.

“You’re not, he’s become an average player, and that’s being fair.”

According to SofaScore, Winks ranks 15th out of 23 players in the Tottenham squad this season and it’s no surprise when you look at his overall output in his 19 Premier League appearances.

The 26-year-old who was dubbed “sloppy” by Alasdair Gold has committed two errors that have led to shots, has only made 0.6 key passes, 0.8 tackles and interceptions, and is dribbled past 0.7 times on average per game. That proves that he lacks effectiveness and coasts through games with a mediocre output in defensive and attacking play.

Everton are in no position to add more players who are anonymous and lack dominance in the midfield at Goodison Park, and are desperately in need of adding more leaders in their team who can be direct and work hard to make sure the Toffees don’t find themselves in the same position as they did this season.

Lampard and Farhad Moshiri must work together to identify players who can come into the club and make an instant impact that can make drastic changes to the current team to inspire better results in the Premier League, Winks is not the player they should be spending their tight transfer budget on.

Leeds United have reportedly enquired about the availability of Barcelona starlet Ez Abde, according to Spanish newspaper Sport (via Sport Witness). 

The lowdown: Top talent

Signed by Barcelona B in 2019 from Hercules, the 20-year-old winger progressed into Xavi’s first-team plans during the 2021/22 campaign.

Abde ended the season with 11 senior outings for the Catalan giants, having scored twice and provided seven assists in 20 appearances for the B team.

Despite seemingly having a bright future in Spain, it appears that Leeds are keen on bringing the Moroccan to the Premier League…

The latest: Leeds interested in Abde

As per Sport, translated by Sport Witness, Leeds have ‘mentioned’ the name of Abde whilst discussing other deals with Barcelona – perhaps the widely-speculated transfer of Raphinha to Camp Nou.

It is suggested that Wolves – who loaned Adama Traore to the La Liga club in January – also enquired about the possibility of signing the 20-year-old.

Under contract at Camp Nou until 2024 (Transfermarkt), the report makes no mention of a desire from Barcelona to sell the youngster, who was hailed as ‘extraordinary’ by Xavi following a 2-2 draw against Osasuna in which the versatile attacker scored and also completed five successful dribbles in a 7.2-rated performance from Sofascore.

The verdict: Smart move

Equally adept on either wing, signing Abde amidst the possibility of either or both of Raphinha and Jack Harrison departing would be a smart piece of business from Jesse Marsch and Victor Orta.

The talented starlet completed 3.4 dribbles per game during 10 La Liga outings in his breakthrough season at that level, highlighting a penchant for beating defenders which would be welcomed with open arms at Elland Road, where nobody averaged more than two successful dribbles per match in 2021/22.

Boasting stylistic similarities with the likes of Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha, Sevilla ace Lucas Ocampos and the aforementioned Traore (Fbref), Abde is certainly one to watch as the next generation of talent comes through at Barcelona, and Leeds would be wise to remain attentive to the possibility of this capture.

The 28-year-old first joined the Italian giants from Palermo back in 2015, but after making 292 senior appearances in that time, the striker recently confirmed that he would be leaving the Serie A outfit following the conclusion of the current season after a seven-year spell in Turin.

The Lilywhites previously attempted to bring Dybala to the Premier League in 2019 when former manager Mauricio Pochettino was in charge, but failed to get a deal over the line in time due to image rights issues.

As the 32-cap international will be available on a free transfer during the upcoming window, he has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs once again, but after a fresh update, it would appear as though that’s off the table.

The Latest: Spurs end interest

In a huge update published by Football.London, the reliable Alasdair Gold reports that Tottenham are ‘not considering’ entering the race for Dybala as a result of Fabio Paratici not being ‘wholly convinced’ that their old target is the ‘right fit’.

The source further states that the director of football was a member of the hierarchy who tried to move Dybala on during his time working at Juventus, so it seems like Paratici has never been a big fan of the player.

The Verdict: A missed opportunity

Taking up the option not to pursue the £222k-per-week star, especially as someone who’s about to become a free agent, is surely a missed opportunity to seal an absolute bargain at N17.

The Argentine, labelled a ‘world class’ superstar by former Spurs man Paul Robinson, has made 21 goal contributions in just 38 outings across all competitions for Massimiliano Allegri’s side this season, as per Transfermarkt, and it’s hard to see why Antonio Conte wouldn’t want this type of prolific player in his starting XI.

Dybala would be the perfect candidate to provide some serious goalscoring competition for Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, but it looks as though the club have already made up their minds and will no doubt now be starting the hunt to find their new deputy for Kane.

League One play-off finalists Sunderland face a summer battle to keep their Scottish sensation known as the “Loch Ness Drogba”.

As reported previously, Rangers are said to be “keeping tabs” on Stewart, who has had the most prosperous season of his life in what is his first full season in England’s third division.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke, revealed the latest last week when speaking to GIVEMESPORT, saying: “It looks like he’s obviously on their wanted list, Ross Stewart. It’s been talked about now for quite a few weeks that Rangers are keeping tabs on him.

“If Rangers do come calling, it’s going to be hard for somebody like Ross Stewart – a Scottish player – to turn down their advances.”

At 25-years-old, he has finally had his breakout season and it has benefited Sunderland no-end. To the point where his presence in the squad is truly felt and if he was to leave, amidst the reported interest from Rangers, it would represent somewhat of a summer disaster for the Tyneside outfit.

The Scot, who could cost any suitor around £5m, has been so integral to Sunderland’s season that if he had not featured, they would go from League One’s third-highest goalscorers with 81 goals scored (just one goal behind both Oxford and Wigan who are tied in first place) to the sixteenth highest scorers with 56 goals scored.

With that in mind, it’s hardly surprising that his efforts have been dubbed “unbelievable” by Kris Boyd.

Stewart has proven himself as an out-and-out goal machine this season, and if Sunderland are to achieve their ambition of Championship promotion this season, then the need for the forward to stay will elevate that bit more.

Though, as O’Rourke said, if Rangers do come calling, it would be difficult for a Scottish player to turn them down. As a result, the club’s current boss will surely be scared over his star man’s future.

Celtic were crowned Premiership champions this month to cap off what has been a successful domestic campaign for the Hoops and Ange Postecoglou.

With 29 wins, six draws and just three defeats in the top flight, the Bhoys ended up scoring 92 goals along the way and only conceded 22 times.

However, one man who didn’t contribute much to their title-winning season is left-back Boli Bolingoli.

Celtic signed the defender from Rapid Vienna in the summer of 2019 in a deal worth a reported £3m.

The Belgian featured in a mere eight matchday squads for the Hoops across all competitions this season and only played in two games.

In 2020, the defender effectively threw his Celtic career under the bus when he broke the government’s guidelines during the pandemic by not quarantining after a trip to Spain, which led to him being charged by the SFA.

Having been called “arrogant” by newspaper columnist Bill Leckie for his actions, the 26-year-old has reportedly been training on his own in Belgium for the past number of weeks, which doesn’t say much for his chances of redemption at Parkhead.

According to a recent report from Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, Celtic will be looking to move the full-back out of the club on a permanent basis this summer, which to us feels like the right decision for all parties.

To further highlight Bolingoli’s downfall, his market value was listed at £2.7m by Transfermarkt in February 2020, whereas it now stands at £1.35m, highlighting a drop of 50%.

Taking all this into account, it’s safe to say that Celtic’s deal for the Belgian has turned into a disappointing one up to now.

If Postecoglou can finally get the player out the door for good and his £15k-per-week wages off the club’s books, this would pave the way for them to bring in a suitable and hopefully reliable replacement.

With that in mind, reports have already emerged linking the Hoops with a summer swoop for Hammarby left-back Mohanad Jeahze.

Should the club secure his signature, it could well be the final nail in the coffin for Bolingoli’s chances of having any sort of a future in a Celtic shirt.

This clash with Leipzig is a huge occasion and Rangers cannot afford to have a liability in their side, which is why the experienced Balogun should come in at centre-back and Calvin Bassey can slot in at left-back.

In midfield, we are predicting that Scott Arfield will be axed in favour of Kamara. FFC published an article explaining why the former does not warrant a starting place and van Bronkhorst may look to the Finland international to replace him.

Neil McCann, his former manager at Dundee United, previously dubbed him as “perfect” and the Gers boss seemingly rates him highly as Kamara has started nine Europa League matches this season. This indicates that he is trusted to perform in the competition, which is why he should start tonight.

Finally, Roofe may replace Fashion Sakala in the number nine role. He is an injury doubt for this match but a report from the Scottish Sun claimed that he will win the race to be fit and he could take the Zambian’s place in the team.
