Tottenham make proposal to sign £227k-per-week Barcelona forward on loan

Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be targeting the loan signing of a forward from Barcelona, with under-pressure Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou still on the hunt for his first outfield transfer as we approach the business end of January.

The 26-year-old, who bagged a sensational 15 goals and 14 assists in all competitions during his best season at Eintracht Frankfurt, was deemed one of the best versatile forwards available on the market (David Ornstein), so Spurs officials will have been very disappointed to miss out on his services.

Now, Postecoglou’s side have re-entered the market for another wide player, as they look to back their manager who’s been forced to cope with a serious injury crisis at N17 throughout the campaign.

Tottenham are believed to be the main contenders to sign Tyler Dibling from Southampton, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, but his English colleague Lyall Thomas has since reported that the 18-year-old will command a hefty £55 million transfer fee.

The price quoted for Dibling could be too much for Tottenham mid-season, but there is another potential loan option in the form of Barcelona forward Ansu Fati.

The Spain international spent 2023/2024 on loan at Brighton, where he scored four goals and bagged one assist in 30 total appearances, since returning to the Camp Nou and enduring a very mixed season.

Fati has suffered from a few injury problems this term, which have largely kept him out of Hansi Flick’s first-team, and he’s failed to make any real impact when available.

Tottenham make proposal to sign Ansu Fati on loan

As per one Spanish media source, Tottenham could offer the £227,000-per-week attacker a route back to the Premier League.

Indeed, it is believed that Spurs have made a proposal to sign Fati on loan from Barcelona, which would include an option to buy. The Catalans could be tempted by this offer, as they actively seek to find the 22-year-old a new club.

However, Tottenham would need to take on a hefty portion of his wages, and Fati is apparently more in favour of remaining at his current club despite his squad status.

Nevertheless, Postecoglou’s men have apparently “set their sights” on signing Fati before the deadline.

Newcastle now want to sign "truly magnificent" £55k-a-week attacking gem

A fresh transfer report has claimed that Newcastle United are keen on completing the signing of a “truly magnificent” attacking player from La Liga, with his current club happy for him to leave.

Latest Newcastle news

The Magpies enjoyed another brilliant Premier League outing on Monday, winning 2-0 away to Manchester United and comprehensively outplaying their opponents at Old Trafford. Alexander Isak and Joelinton got the goals for the visitors, who must be eyeing a top-four finish after an improved run of form of late.

The January transfer window could see Newcastle delve into the market for new signings, should Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe feel that fresh faces are needed to aid their quest to seal a return to the Champions League.

AC Milan's Christian Pulisic celebrates scoring their first goal with Samuel Chukwueze and FikayoTomori

The Magpies are reportedly the front-runners to acquire the signature of AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori, with long-term defensive reinforcements needed, considering Fabian Schar, Dan Burn and Jamaal Lascelles are all now in their 30s. A return to the Premier League is thought to appeal to the Englishman, having fallen out of favour a little at times this season.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin also continues to be linked with a move to Newcastle in 2025, although a summer switch looks more likely than a January transfer, allowing him to head to St James’ Park on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Newcastle want to sign "truly magnificent" Barcelona gem

According to Caught Offside, Newcastle are “among the clubs” who are keen on signing Barcelona youngster Vitor Roque, with the La Liga giants also willing to allow him to move on.

The 19-year-old is currently on loan at Real Betis, having struggled to be deemed a key player by Hansi Flick, and Tottenham are also believed to be in the mix to sign him. Barca would rather use him in a swap deal with Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres, though.

The £55,000-a-week Roque could be an exciting addition for Newcastle, even though his time in Spain hasn’t gone to plan, with only two goals coming his way in 16 Barca appearances to date.

At 19, he is far too young to be written off as a top-level footballer, however, and football talent scout Jacek Kulig has hailed him as both “truly magnificent” and someone with “crazy potential” in the past.

Roque wouldn’t arrive at Newcastle as a regular starter, given his age, but he could be a great backup option to Alexander Isak leading the line, arriving as a young replacement for the likely outgoing Callum Wilson.

New position for Mason Greenwood? Roberto De Zerbi admits he could make 'sacrifice' ahead of crunch Marseille clash with Monaco

Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi has admitted he could tweak Mason Greenwood's position but is worried it may impact his ability to score goals.

Marseille face Monaco on Saturday in a crucial game in the race for Champions League qualification. De Zerbi spoke about his team selection ahead of the match and admitted he's worried about defensive issues and could also be tempted to re-jig his attack by shifting Greenwood out wide.

AdvertisementAFPTHE BIGGER PICTURE

Greenwood has been a potent attacking force for Marseille this season. He's scored 16 goals in 28 Ligue 1 games for the French side, only PSG's Ousmane Dembele has more goals in the French top flight this season. Although he has come in for criticism recently from De Zerbi, he was in the goals last time out with an impressive strike in a 3-2 win over Toulouse.

WHAT DE ZERBI SAID

The coach told reporters: "I spoke with [Amine] Harit this week too. He's been out since October and hasn't been very available. He feels pretty good in that position. Putting Greenwood on the wing is possible. But you're keeping him away from the goal and asking him to make a defensive sacrifice. All the strikers defend, but he can't do something he can't do. Rabiot has to play higher up, in midfield; he's unique. The competition is high."

De Zerbi also spoke about recent mistakes and his team's attitude, adding: "I think everyone makes mistakes. The goals against Toulouse are different. The second one came from a set piece. That's also the characteristics of our team. We don't have many defenders at the moment, and we have players who need to develop in that position. We also need to work on our attitude. We may have lacked aggression too. We know there are few defenders in the team at the moment, so everyone needs to do something extra."

Derby County now eyeing loan-to-buy move for 21 y/o compared to De Bruyne

Derby County are interested in signing a midfielder likened to none other than Kevin de Bruyne before the January transfer window closes.

Derby suffer another defeat

It was another evening to forget for the Rams on Tuesday, falling to a 1-0 loss to Championship promotion hopefuls Sunderland at Pride Park.

It was a sixth successive defeat in all competitions under Paul Warne, with Derby’s slide down the league table continuing. Talking after the game, Warne said: “I thought second half we played with more intent. No fan wants to hear this off of their manager, no doubt, but if you are going to lose then that is the way to lose.

“You’ve got to try and put your personality on the game, you have to put crosses in the box, make the keeper make saves and give the fans something to cheer.

“I didn’t think we did that in the first half and I was expecting bigger boos at half-time, truth be told. I appreciate everyone that got behind the team and the team needed it. All in all I’m proud, but hugely disappointed that we didn’t get anything.”

Derby’s attention now turns to a trip to Wales with Cardiff City on the weekend, with the Rams currently in 20th place and their hosts one spot higher above the drop zone.

Warne and those behind the scenes at Derby can also bring in new additions until February 3, and it looks as if they have their eyes on a new target alongside Aston Villa defender Lamar Bogarde.

Derby interested in signing versatile midfielder

According to reports in the Netherlands over the last 48 hours, Derby are interested in signing midfielder Oscar Fraulo. The Dane can play as a holding, central or attacking midfielder and is currently on loan at FC Utrecht from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Fraulo is on loan in the Netherlands with an option to buy at the end of the campaign, however, the report states that Derby may now take over that loan-to-buy deal.

The 21-year-old has been going from strength to strength, with his current Transfermarkt valuation at a career-high €3.5m. He’s also been praised by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig in the past, who previously likened Fraulo to Kevin de Bruyne.

Kulig said on Fraulo’s style of play: “Roaming playmaker – has all the qualities to play as an advanced playmaker as well – well-rounded, hard-working team player – tactically astute and technically capable of playing in various tactical systems and roles – knows how to dictate tempo using his good vision, passing ability at all distances, and natural technique to create dynamism on the team’s build-up process.”

All the signs point to him being a shrewd signing for the Rams, making this one to watch.

Leeds can forget about Louie Barry by signing "exciting" £4m "beast"

Leeds United can be fairly content with their position in the Championship table heading into the second half of the season, with Daniel Farke’s side sat in first place.

Their goal heading into the 2024/25 campaign was automatic promotion, having lost in the play-off final last year, and they are currently on course to achieve that.

However, they are only one point clear of Sheffield United and Burnley in second and third, which means that they are only one more slip up away from potentially being in the play-off positions.

As you can see in the highlights above, Leeds could have been three points clear of their rivals after the weekend if they had not let a 3-1 lead against Hull slip in the last ten minutes.

The Whites know that they will need to be better at seeing out games in the coming months if they want to avoid dropping down into the play-offs, which is what happened last season.

Farke and his recruitment team could look to use the January transfer window, which opened for business last week, to bolster the squad ahead of the promotion run-in.

Leeds eyeing January additions

According to the Daily Mail Online, Leeds are serious about dipping into the market to ensure that they have a team that is ready to get automatic promotion over the line in the second half of the campaign.

The report claims that a centre-back, a full-back, a midfielder, and a striker are all on the agenda for the Whites, who could make up to four signings before February’s deadline, as they look to leave Farke with plenty of options to choose from across the park.

There is no mention of any targets Leeds have in the first three positions, although reports from elsewhere have seen them linked to Hoffenheim forward Mergim Berisha, central defender Ben Godfrey, and Nottingham Forest outcast Andrew Omobamidele.

The Daily Mail Online does, however, reveal that Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Dor Turgeman and Aston Villa youngster Louie Barry are both on the club’s radar as potential forward additions.

Leeds, however, appear set to miss out on a transfer for Barry as Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, has reported that Derby County are closing in on a deal to sign the attacker.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

It was claimed that the Rams could win the race for his signature because they can offer him guaranteed game time week-in-week-out, which would not be the case if he were to join one of the top sides – including Leeds – in the Championship this month.

It is a shame that the West Yorkshire outfit are unlikely to strike a deal for the former Barcelona and West Brom youngster, as he enjoyed a strong first half of the season.

Louie Barry's form this season

The 21-year-old starlet spent the first half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan with Stockport County in League One and showcased his attacking qualities week-in-week-out for the third division outfit.

Barry caught the eye of Leeds, as well as Derby and others, because of his impressive goalscoring output whilst playing out wide on the left or through the middle for Stockport, contributing with 15 goals in 23 appearances in the league.

As you can see in the table above, the English gem rarely missed a ‘big chance’ to find the back of the net but was not as prolific when it came to creating chances for his teammates to score.

Barry, however, has yet to prove that he can step up and do it in the Championship, after just five months of strong performances in the third tier of English football, and it remains to be seen whether or not he will be able to translate his attacking threat over to the second division.

Leeds can, now, move on from the Aston Villa youngster by focussing their efforts on signing the other forward on their radar this month – Dor Turgeman.

Why Leeds should sign Dor Turgeman

Firstly, the 21-year-old star, who is reportedly available for a fee of around £4m this month, would arrive on a permanent deal and come in as a long-term option for Farke, whereas Barry would only have been a short-term fix.

Turgeman, who was described as “very exciting” by The Rangers Journal’s Kai Watson, still has plenty of time left to develop and hone his skills, at the age of 21, and could be a project player for the manager to work on over the years to come.

The Israel international’s form for Maccabi Tel Aviv so far this season also suggests that he could come in as a strong addition to the German head coach’s squad to bolster his attacking options ahead of the second half of the campaign.

Whilst, like Barry, he has not played in the Championship before, Turgeman has played at a higher level in the Europa League this term and contributed with one goal and one ‘big chance’ created in four starts, after three goals in four matches in the qualifying stage.

This shows that the potential is there for him to impact games against high-quality opposition, whilst the young gem, who Maccabi Tel Aviv manager Zarko Lazetić described as “a beast on the pitch”, has also been a star in domestic football for his club.

As you can see in the table above, Turgeman has contributed with an impressive 13 goals and ‘big chances’ created in nine league games in the Israeli Premier League so far this term.

These statistics show that he has racked up ten goals in 17 starts in all competitions, to go along with his eight ‘big chances’ created, which speaks to the kind of quality he can provide in the final third.

Therefore, Farke and Leeds could forget all about Barry by landing a £4m deal for Turgeman, who could offer a greater quality on the pitch – given his European exploits – whilst also coming in as long-term, permanent, solution for the club.

Not Isak or Gordon: Newcastle’s 8/10 star was "too good" vs Spurs

Newcastle United’s fine form continues in the Premier League as they began 2025 with a wonderful 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

It was the home side who enjoyed the better start, however, as Dominic Solanke headed Spurs into an early lead. It didn’t last long, as the Magpies equalized through Anthony Gordon, before the man of the moment, Alexander Isak, scored for the seventh league game in a row to steer his side into the lead.

Spurs pushed for more goals, but the Toon were resilient at the back and the win ensured they remain fifth in the table.

Where would the club be without Gordon and Isak?

Gordon & Isak's game in numbers vs Spurs

The Swede could have had two goals as he missed a big chance, but his confidence was flowing before the game and the Spurs defence struggled to keep tabs on him throughout.

Isak won three of his four ground duels, registered two shots and was fouled twice, proving just how much of a menace he was, having enjoyed a deserved slice of luck after getting the final touch following Radu Dragusin’s initial intervention.

Gordon was also relentless in the final third. The former Everton winger recorded five total shots, made two key passes, attempted two dribbles and delivered six crosses into the opposition box.

That work rate was rewarded as the Englishman drew his side level in what was a frantic opening, the 24-year-old pouncing on a somewhat contentious deflection off the arm of Joelinton before cooly slotting past debutant Brandon Austin.

The duo are doing everything they can to ensure the club makes a return to the Champions League next season, but the real unsung hero for so long has been Bruno Guimaraes, who shone once again vs Spurs.

Bruno Guimaraes’ game in numbers vs Spurs

The Brazilian has started every single Premier League game for the Magpies this term, captaining the side to victory ten times in the process.

Bruno Guimaraes

Against Spurs, the former Lyon midfielder delivered another dominant showing in the heart of the pitch. He managed to grab his fifth assist in the league this term with his through ball which saw Gordon net the equaliser.

Additionally, Guimaraes also recorded three key passes, created a big chance and won an impressive eight duels during the game, offering no respite to the Spurs players looking to push forward.

Performance in Numbers

Want data and stats? Football FanCast's Performance in Numbers series provides you with the latest match analysis from across Europe.

His performance saw the skipper given a match rating of 8/10 by the Shields Gazette journalist Dominic Scurr, who said Guimaraes ‘grabbed control of the game in the closing stages of the first half with a dominant midfield showing’ and there was also praise elsewhere.

Football writer Srinivas Sadhanand also heaped praise on the Brazilian, describing him as simply “too good” following his all-round midfield display.

If Newcastle goes on to secure a seat in Europe’s premier club competition for next term, it won’t just be down to the goals Isak scores, or the creative talents of Gordon.

No. It will come down to how well Guimaraes performs in the heart of the midfield over the next 18 league matches.

#PorMaisRespeito.”
