Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has described a new contract for one Elland Road talent as “perfect news”.

The Whites are once again in an automatic promotion battle in the Championship, this time coming up against Sheffield United and Burnley.

After falling short in the top two race and in the playoffs last time out, Farke’s side have performed better this time around, sitting on 76 points after 36 games.

However, a place in the top two isn’t guaranteed, with the run-in once again set to be filled with plenty of nerves from the Elland Road faithful. Recently, Leeds’ 17-game unbeaten run came to an end against Portsmouth, with all four defeats in the second tier this season being 1-0 scorelines.

Away from the pitch, there has also been some movement behind the scenes, with Angus Kinnear’s move to Everton at the end of the campaign being announced. Leeds have moved to bring in Peter McCormick, who will be joining the club as executive vice chairman, and they have also tied down a promising youngster to a new contract.

Leeds confirmed a new deal for teenager Sam Chambers on Monday, with the midfielder penning a fresh three-year deal through until 2028 on what was his 18th birthday.

He appears to be one of the brightest prospects in the Thorp Arch academy, alongside Harry Gray, younger brother of Archie. Speaking at his pre-Millwall press conference, Farke was asked about Harry Gray amid the young forward training with the first team.

“We won’t rush it too much. We’re happy we have him. He’s a player in the category of Sam Chambers who can play an important part in our future.”

He then spoke in more detail on Chambers and his new three-year deal, labelling it as “perfect” for everyone involved and a player who he likes “a lot”.

“Perfect day for Sam, also his birthday and great news. I like him a lot, we believe in this player. The new contract is not a gift, we believe in him, that he can play a major role for us in the future. Developing our own players is a cornerstone of our beliefs. It’s important, it’s not like we can always spend money and buy players. The player with the badge, if he comes through the ranks it’s a big identification. It’s perfect news for him and his family and perfect news for us.”

Chambers has been involved in six Championship matchday squads, so his progress over the coming years will be one to watch alongside Gray.

Rangers manager rumours with Ferguson impressing

The Gers have enjoyed an upturn in form after parting ways with Philippe Clement and bringing in Barry Ferguson as interim manager until the end of the season.

Ferguson guided Rangers to a Europa League last-16 win over Fenerbahce and Jose Mourinho, and more recently, got the better of Brendan Rodgers and Celtic with a 3-2 win at Parkhead.

With the 49ers Enterprises agreeing a deal in principle to take over at Ibrox, all eyes will soon be on who they decide to appoint as Rangers boss.

A number of names have been linked with the full-time Ibrox vacancy, including Rafael Benitez, who is thought to be keen on returning to the dugout with a move to Glasgow.

Former manager Steven Gerrard has also been mooted as a potential Rangers target after leaving his job with Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

However, alongside Benitez, Ferguson, who plays a 3-4-2-1 formation, as per Transfermarkt, is also keen on the Rangers job. Pundit and older brother Derek Ferguson recently said: “This is a different kettle of fish now. I took him to Rangers as a boy. The club is ingrained in him. There’s only one conclusion: He wants the job but will need to win games.”

Now, he has received the backing of former teammate Lee McCulloch.

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – Mauricio Pochettino denied any interest in succeeding the fired Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham manager, saying after the USMNT's 2-1 loss to Turkey on Saturday that "Today it's not realistic. Look at where I am, where we are, and I think is the answer is so clear."

Several media outlets have speculated that Pochettino is on Tottenham's radar, with the BBC reporting that the Spurs have interest in bringing back the U.S. boss, while also considering Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Fulham's Marco Silva.

The BBC also reported that it would be financially challenging to hire Pochettino, given the compensation required to break his current contract with U.S. Soccer.

Alzarri Joseph walked in ahead of Rahkeem Cornwall for the second time in the Test, and tried to survive by way of attack. He hit Ashwin over long-off for a six but holed out to deep midwicket when he went for another slog.For his fifth wicket, Ashwin switched to over the wicket and had Cornwall caught at short leg with a big offbreak. Kemar Roach didn’t last long either, and while Jomel Warrican entertained for a brief period, it took Ashwin only a couple of overs after the scheduled hours to have him lbw. Jason Holder resisted for 50 balls but there was little help from the other end.In the morning, as Jaiswal and Virat Kohli resumed India’s innings from 312 for 2, West Indies started with a couple of handicaps. Joseph couldn’t open the bowling because he was off the field for 28 minutes before stumps last evening. Cornwall was also not allowed to bowl for two hours as he had gone off the field with a chest infection before lunch on day two.On a pitch that was slowing down with every passing over, Jaiswal had no trouble driving on the up against seamers. The opener picked up his first boundary of the day with an on-drive off Holder. Three balls later, he became the third Indian after Shikhar Dhawan (187) and Rohit (177) to score 150 or more on Test debut.Joseph replaced Holder as soon as he was eligible to bowl. By then Jaiswal was looking to score quickly. This summer is a huge opportunity for Ruben Amorim to make the changes he wants to his Manchester United first-team squad, allowing for the best possible chance of success in his first full year at the helm.

During the January transfer window, the 40-year-old only had a couple of weeks to make changes to the side, allowing numerous players to depart the North West on loan.

Marcus Rashford, Tyrell Malacia and Anthony all departed the club for various temporary stints away, with it unknown whether any of the trio have a future at Old Trafford.

Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven were the first additions of the Amorim era, with the pair both already excelling in the first-team, showing signs of being worth their respective transfer fees.

Hopefully he can continue his excellent early start in the transfer market this summer, potentially returning for a deal to land a player who he’s previously managed.

Man Utd’s potential move to land Viktor Gyokeres this summer

The 2024/25 Premier League season is yet to reach its conclusion, but the transfer rumours are already starting to gather momentum ahead of the summer.

United have already been touted as a possible destination for striker Viktor Gyokeres, who previously featured under Amorim during his time as Sporting CP manager.

The Swedish international has been in phenomenal goalscoring form over the last couple of months, notching a total of 40 goals in 41 outings across all competitions this campaign.

Gyokeres has registered a total of 83 goals in 91 appearances for the Portuguese outfit and is rumoured to be available for around the £60m mark this summer.

However, the club may have made a mistake in allowing one player to depart the club, possessing similar characteristics to the former Coventry City ace – highlighting the wrong call in allowing him to depart.

The former United ace who’s been like Gyokeres in 2024/25

Former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær is responsible for numerous impressive pieces of business which has seen the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo move to the club.

The Norwegian led the club to a second-placed finish in 2020/21, coming within touching distance of claiming the first league title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure – offering stability which has often been lacking in Manchester.

However, the 52-year-old also made the call to part ways with Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku in the summer of 2019, ending his two-year stint in the North West.

The Red Devils forked out a staggering £75m for his signature in the summer of 2017, looking to transform the club’s front line and edge them closer to a top-flight triumph.

He managed to find the net 27 times in his first year, before scoring 15 in the following year, leaving in a £73m deal to join Inter Milan and ending his short stint in Manchester.

However, the “unplayable” talisman, as dubbed by pundit Alan Shearer, has consistently scored goals everywhere he’s been since his departure six years ago, notching double figures in every single season.

He’s now plying his trade for Napoli in Serie A, with FBref ranking him as a similar player to Gyokeres based off their respective numbers from the current season – with the comparison understandable when delving into their figures.

Lukaku may have registered fewer goals to date, but he’s managed to achieve a higher shot on target accuracy rate – showcasing that he’s been unlucky not to have more goals than he currently does.

He’s also won more aerials per 90, whilst losing possession fewer times per game, offering that all-round focal point which the side have been desperately missing.

There’s no denying that Gyokeres would be a phenomenal addition to the side, certainly handing them the goalscoring threat they’ve been after in recent years.

However, this whole scouting mission could’ve been saved had Solskjaer not parted ways with the Belgian six years ago, with his presence potentially helping the club fight at the top end once again.

Tottenham Hotspur are doing the groundwork on a deal to sign an “exceptional” winger, who is now one of their key targets for the summer transfer window, according to a report.

Spurs set to strengthen in attack

It is clear Tottenham are keen on bringing in additional attacking options this summer, given that they have identified a number of potential targets in the striker department, recently stepping up their pursuit of Lille marksman Jonathan David, who is soon to be a free agent.

Arsenal are also linked with a move for David, and Spurs may also have to battle their rivals for the signature of Leeds United youngster Harry Gray, younger brother of Archie, with Premier League clubs queuing up to sign the impressive teenage striker.

Bringing in a new striker is of interest to Ange Postecoglou, and the manager also wants to refresh his wide options, with Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman being named as a potential signing earlier this month.

Bayern manager Vincent Kompany is happy to offload Coman, which could make a deal easier to facilitate, but Tottenham may be more keen on an alternative option from much closer to home.

According to a report from GiveMeSport, Spurs are now doing the groundwork on a deal to sign Southampton winger Tyler Dibling, as they look to make a splash in the summer transfer window.

Dibling has now been identified as one of the Lilywhites’ key targets, with the 19-year-old beginning to look more likely to leave the Saints this summer, given that his side are almost certain to be relegated from the Premier League.

Postecoglou’s side could be trying to move ahead of the other clubs in the race for the starlet, who has previously been valued at £55m, with the likes of Manchester United and Crystal Palace also named as potential suitors.

Dibling excelling despite Saints' struggles

It has been a season to forget for Southampton, who are still not safe from the ignominy of recording the lowest-ever Premier League points total, having collected just nine points from 29 games.

However, Dibling has still managed to impress at times, chalking up four goals and two assists in all competitions, in what has been a real breakthrough season for the youngster.

The Exeter-born winger has also managed to impress when he hasn’t been on the scoresheet, being lauded as “exceptional” and a “joy to watch” by reporter Ryan Taylor, following an excellent showing against Manchester United back in September.

It would be a difficult task for any player to stand out in such a poor side, but some of Dibling’s performances this season indicate he deserves another chance in the Premier League next season, and it will be interesting to see how he fares in a better team.

  Ex-Red Dragons forward Trundle has told the podcast: “If you take the goals that Mulls scores and the amount that he scores, you don't just lose that overnight. He had injuries at the start of the season, which kept him out.

  “When you're used to scoring that many goals each season, as soon as you go through that little bad patch, it does affect you as a striker, and it would affect him. He's been the talisman for the team and he's been the one who's scored all the goals.

  “Let's be fair, he's been one of the main reasons for Wrexham's success. He did hit that bad patch, but I do think that he could come back next season, because he's got it in him. I do think that he's a quality player.”
