Nottingham Forest now willing to make serious bid for "super" £22m striker

Nottingham Forest are now willing to make a serious offer for a “super” striker, and they have already started preparing the groundwork for a transfer.

Forest keen on signing new striker after slow start

Although we are just four games into the new Premier League campaign, Forest have already changed their manager, with Ange Postecoglou taking charge for the first time against Arsenal last time out, but it was far from the ideal start for the Australian.

The Tricky Trees suffered their second straight 3-0 defeat in the Premier League, following on from the battering at the hands of a struggling West Ham United side before the international break, with Ange’s side looking pretty toothless going forward.

Although going to the Emirates Stadium was always going to be a difficult test, it has been a slow start for Forest, following on from a concerning pre-season, during which they scored just one goal in seven friendly games.

Consequently, there may be some concerns surrounding Ange’s forward line, meaning the new manager may want to bolster his attacking options in the January transfer window, and the Europa League side have now joined the race for a new striker.

That is according to a report from Spain, which states Nottingham Forest are now the club best-positioned to sign Sevilla striker Isaac Romero, and they are willing to make a serious bid for the 25-year-old’s services.

The Tricky Trees are already laying the groundwork for a deal, that could amount to around €25m (£22m), which would be an affordable fee for a Premier League side.

Ange’s side believe the Spaniard has all the qualities to succeed at The City Ground, and the door could be open for a deal, given that Sevilla need to sell to balance the books.

"Super" Romero has made impressive start to the season

The Sevilla star has made a solid start to the campaign, scoring two goals in his opening four La Liga games, meaning he is already half-way to matching his league goal tally from the 2024-25 season.

Former teammate Oliver Torres has also raved about the forward in the past, saying: “More than just a good player, Isaac is a good teammate, a good lad, super humble, super hard-working and in the end fortune smiles on people like that.”

Ange must now unleash Nottingham Forest star who "spelt the end for Nuno"

It isn’t just Omari Hutchinson who Nuno didn’t appear to fancy at Nottingham Forest.

ByJoe Nuttall Sep 12, 2025

Forest made major improvements to their attack in the summer, bringing in the likes of Omari Hutchinson, Dilane Bakwa, Dan Ndoye, and Arnaud Kalimuendo, so there are doubts over whether they need to bring in another forward imminently.

However, with Chris Wood now 33-years-old, the New Zealand international could be in the twilight years of his career, so it may be worth bringing in a long-term replacement, and Romero is showing promising signs at Sevilla.

Ready or not, Wadhera makes an impact on Punjab Kings debut

Nehal Wadhera didn’t think he would make his Punjab Kings (PBKS) and IPL 2025 debut on April 1 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).Vijaykumar Vyshak was the Impact Sub for Priyansh Arya in their season-opener against Gujarat Titans (GT). But, in their second game, Wadhera came on after Yuzvendra Chahal finished his four overs. And when LSG substituted David Miller for left-arm spinner M Siddharth in Lucknow, head coach Ricky Ponting asked him to be ready to bat, ahead of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.PBKS had already wiped out 110 of their 172-run target in just 10.1 overs. Wadhera went out at No. 4 and finished with a polished, unbeaten 25-ball 43 in Shreyas Iyer’s company. The pair added 67 in just 37 balls to take their team to victory with 22 balls to spare. And Wadhera hadn’t even bothered to take his whole kit to work, he was so sure he wouldn’t get a look-in.Related

“We talk about players making an impact, right? “It’s a great feeling,” Wadhera said in the PBKS video. “My only thought when I went into bat was that Iyer is set, I shouldn’t allow pressure to creep in on him. And I need is to prove Ricky Ponting right for the faith and backing he gave me.”After his unbeaten effort, Wadhera was full of praise for Iyer’s captaincy, while also speaking with admiration of Ponting, who he said he had “never heard any negative talk” from.”All credit goes to the way he [Iyer] is captaining us,” Wadhera told the official broadcaster after the LSG game. “And also the way he is boosting our confidence and the way he was telling me things like, ‘play your natural game, just go with the flow,’ and I just love playing like that.”

Oakland’s Coliseum, the recent home of Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise Oakland Athletics, will host nine Major League Cricket (MLC) fixtures in 2025. It will become the league’s third venue, with the first two seasons split between Grand Prairie, Texas and Church Street Park, Morrisville. The Coliseum, which has hosted baseball and American football since 1966, will be modified to host cricket, with a reduced capacity of 12,000 and the planned installation of drop-in pitches to meet international standards. Athletics left the venue at the end of last season, with the franchise’s owners planning a relocation to Las Vegas.San Francisco Unicorns, the losing finalists in 2024, will play three home games at the Coliseum. “The Bay Area has a deep and growing love for cricket,” David White, the franchise’s CEO, said. “This move allows us to create an unforgettable match-day experience in one of the region’s most iconic venues.”The Coliseum was considered as a potential venue for last year’s men’s T20 World Cup, but the idea was eventually ruled out due to logistical challenges. The stadium was a prominent feature in the 2011 film , based on Michael Lewis’ book which documented the Athletics’ success following data-driven strategies in the early 2000s.It will host the opening match of the 2025 season on June 12, a rematch of last year’s final between the Unicorns and Ricky Ponting’s Washington Freedom. MLC said on Wednesday that the league would deliver “a $3 million [USD] direct economic boost” to the city, which will become the first west-coast venue to host top-level cricket.”The Coliseum is a fantastic location for Major League Cricket, and we are thrilled by the prospect of some of the world’s biggest cricket stars playing in such an iconic Californian venue,” said Johnny Grave, who became the league’s chief executive earlier this year.”Coming to the West Coast, and being here in Oakland, is an historic move for cricket globally. It reinforces our commitment to growing the game in the United States and providing fans with an exceptional cricket experience.”ESPNcricinfo revealed earlier this year that MLC has avoided a clash with the Hundred in 2025, with the final scheduled for July 12. Several international stars have been retained by their franchises, including Rashid Khan, Nicholas Pooran and Heinrich Klaasen, though Pat Cummins will miss this season due to Australia’s Test tour of West Indies. The league is set to expand in the coming years, with Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Toronto all considered as potential new venues. Broward County Stadium, in Florida, will also host games in 2025.

He wanted to join City: Liverpool have already sold an Isak-esque talent

On Sunday afternoon, Alexander Isak will sit on the bench at Burnley’s Turf Moor. Perhaps he will be introduced in the second half, playing 20 or 30 minutes of football for his new club, Liverpool.

The main thing is that Liverpool prevailed in their summer-stretching bid to sign Newcastle United’s talisman, completing the highly-charged transfer on deadline day for a British-record £125m fee, not long after the Reds had broken the previous record when signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for £116m.

Liverpool’s summer spending spree was conducted with the view from the FSG offices that it would be something of a one-off, a remarkable statement of strength that would secure Anfield’s future for many years to come.

And though some felt the deal was somewhat unnecessary after Hugo Ekitike joined from Eintracht Frankfurt earlier in the summer, it was absolutely right that Liverpool pushed hard to land the signature of one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards.

How Isak compares to Premier League strikers

Liverpool spent more this summer than any team had spent before across a single transfer window, and now Arne Slot’s side are expected to deliver: they must defend their Premier League title; they must battle against the continent’s finest for a seventh Champions League triumph.

Isak will help in the pursuit of all that. The 25-year-old scored 27 times for Newcastle last season and has emerged over the past few years as one of the best strikers in world football, so intelligent and influential and clinical in front of goal.

Mohamed Salah is known for his success in the final third, but Isak has actually been scoring at a more prolific rate since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022, and the overload of creative quality at Slot’s disposal suggests the Swede will only go from strength to strength on Merseyside.

However, as already suggested, there are some who maybe feel that a record-breaking bid for Isak was superfluous, especially with Slot already having an Isak-esque talent in the ranks.

Liverpool already sold an Isak-esque talent

Sadio Mane was considered an irreplaceable part of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, and he was, but FSG hit the jackpot in signing a positional successor in Luis Diaz, who proved instrumental in winning a horde of silverware across his three-and-a-half years at the club.

A left-sided forward by trade, Diaz was regarded as a “magical” player by the likes of Liverpool reporter Matt Addison, not quite hitting the same clinical heights as Mane before him but still contributing crucially throughout his spell at the club.

And last year was his best of the bunch, posting 17 goals and eight assists across the campaign. While consistent performances as a striker were bound to raise his output, Diaz still played the role extremely well, never goal-hanging and instead adding a dimension to Liverpool’s build-up play and altogether widening the scope for the likes of Salah and Cody Gakpo, who both enjoyed terrific campaigns in front of goal.

Long regarded as one of the most electric and direct wingers in the Premier League, Slot opted to refashion Diaz into a centre-forward last season, with Darwin Nunez toiling in front of goal.

And the results reinforced that decision, just one of a myriad of tactical enforcements that have established Slot as a Premier League champion and “one of the best coaches” in the world, as remarked by analyst Joe Baker.

Isak arrives at Liverpool as an upgrade in regard to being a centre-forward, but Diaz offered something very distinctive, a blend of sharp-paced athleticism and nifty tricks on the ball, all translatable to an unnatural berth at number nine.

After all, Diaz ranked among the top 3% of positional peers in the Premier League last season for non-penalty goals scored per 90, statistics courtesy of data-led platform FBref.

This much-improved focus in the final third, combined with a dynamic approach to the physical side of the game, led FBref to liken Diaz to Newcastle’s Isak, who had been named by pundit Ally McCoist as being “the best all-round centre-forward” in England.

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland might have more of a predatory instinct in front of goal, but you can see why Liverpool invested such an effort into signing Isak, who brings more to the table, who will carry something of Diaz’s style of play through the campaign.

Diaz was an immense and perhaps even underrated member of a multi-title-winning Liverpool side, but he appeared to have been pining for a transfer, first looking toward Barcelona and then Manchester City and the Saudi Pro League too, before eventually completing a move to Bayern Munich, where he is thriving.

It’s the news that Pep Guardiola’s side had come close to signing him that perhaps rankles some within the Reds fanbase, with Liverpool proposing to the Sky Blues a scenario in which City signed the Colombia international and Liverpool got Julian Alvarez in return upon realising that Diaz wanted to join their domestic rivals.

Diaz’s desire to leave Liverpool and join a domestic rival underscores a further similarity between his case and that of Slot’s new focal frontman, and let’s just be grateful that he was at least willing to remain at the club and continue to ply dutifully toward the outfit’s goals.

The versatile forward, in any case, served Liverpool extremely well, and though he carried some similarities to Isak, there’s no question that Liverpool fans and those involved at the club will consider the arrival of the Sweden star a significant upgrade and a fantastic deal, even though Isak’s signature came at such a premium.

'I was not focused' – William Saliba makes claim on Real Madrid interest with Trent Alexander-Arnold comparison after signing new Arsenal contract

William Saliba has revealed why he chose to sign a new contract at Arsenal despite strong interest from Real Madrid, as he cited Trent Alexander-Arnold's move from Liverpool among his reasons. The French defender's previous deal at Emirates Stadium was due to expire in the summer of 2027. He has now penned a new long-term contract that will keep him at the club until 2030.

Saliba extends Arsenal stay despite Madrid interest

Real Madrid had been interested in Saliba ever since he made his Premier League breakthrough. However, by signing a new long-term contract, the France international has made it clear that he is happy to continue with the Gunners.

AdvertisementAFP'I was not thinking about clubs from the outside'

After putting pen to paper on a new contract, Saliba said on Tuesday: "To be honest, I was not thinking about clubs from the outside. I wanted to stay here for more years. I was not focused on the other clubs. I'm focused on my club."

Saliba was also asked why he did not follow in Alexander-Arnold's footsteps and head to Madrid, to which the Frenchman said: "He won some titles with Liverpool, with me I didn't win anything here except the Community Shield. I want to stay here and win a lot of trophies. I love this club, I couldn't leave this club without giving something back, I've won nothing. I want to stay here and win."

Arsenal shift focus to Saka

After tying Saliba down to a new deal, the Gunners have shifted their focus to star winger Bukayo Saka, who has also entered the final two years of his current contract. The reports that the Premier League giants are preparing a blockbuster contract that would make the England international one of the highest-paid footballers at the Emirates.

WATCH: USMNT's Patrick Agyemang opens Derby County account with crucial equalizer against Southampton

USMNT forward Patrick Agyemang opened his account for Derby County with a first-half goal in their Championship clash against Southampton. The 24-year-old striker struck in the 40th minute to bring the Rams level at 1-1, notching an important milestone early in his stint with the club following his summer move from Charlotte FC. Both the Saints and Rams would settle for a point Saturday.

    An impact play

Agyemang demonstrated predatory instincts to find the equalizer at Pride Park, responding quickly after Southampton had taken an early lead through Adam Armstrong. The American striker rose highest to a flying cross in from the right and nodded the ball past Alex McCarthy in goal to restore parity just before halftime.

On the other side, fellow U.S. international Damion Downs came on in the second half and played 30 minutes for the Saints without a goal contribution.

    Significant career progression

Agyemang emerged as one of Major League Soccer's most promising talents during his time with Charlotte FC, recording 22 goals in 72 appearances since his senior debut for the MLS side. However, it his was his exploits with the USMNT during the 2025 Gold Cup that saw him attract significant interest from European clubs, eventually leading to a move to Derby.

    Adjustment to Championship

Agyemang's first goal arrives after a challenging start to his Derby career as the 24-year-old missed the first four games as he was recovering from a hernia surgery. He has since played in every Championship game for the club since then, contributing to three goals (two assists and one goal) in that period. The Rams have struggled for form, though, winning just one of their last four games, losing one and drawing the other two.

Better signing than Disasi: £24m titan is now pushing to join Sunderland

While a much-changed side slipped up in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, it was Sunderland’s wasteful finishing that cost them on the road at Burnley at the weekend.

Regis Le Bris’ Black Cats were lethal, on the contrary, when swatting West Ham United aside 3-0 to kick off the new Premier League campaign. But, at Turf Moor, nine efforts on the Clarets’ goal would go begging, with Eliezer Mayenda, in particular, guilty of fluffing his lines when failing to fire home a point-blank effort early into the first half.

The defence wasn’t without its faults in Lancashire, either, as both of Burnley’s on-target efforts on the day were tucked away, leaving Le Bris with a whole host of late targets on his shopping list to improve the Wearside outfit all across the pitch.

Sunderland pushing to sign £24m titan

The Frenchman will just pray his team can find consistent results moving forward, knowing performances such as the one dished up at Burnley could result in an instant collapse back down to the Championship.

In a bid to introduce more star quality to the ranks, Sunderland are now being tipped to make a last-ditch £30m move for RC Strasbourg attacker Dilane Bakwa, on top of also being interested in the prospect of snapping up Chelsea reserve defender Axel Disasi to add more Premier League-recognised defenders to the group.

Sunderland are also still in the hunt for long-term target Jhon Lucumi from Bologna to bolster at the back, with another twist in the tale reported by journalist Eduardo Burgos, via X.

Despite lining up for his current employers during their opening contest in Serie A, the Colombian – who looks to be available for a fee around the £24m region – is still pushing for a move at the final hour, with Sunderland even opening back up negotiations with Vincenzo Italiano’s men to finally get a deal over the line.

Jhon Lucumi for Bologna.

If the deal finally were to have legs, this would be a far more impressive purchase to seal than going after Disasi, especially if Lucumi is open to relocating to English shores for less than the Chelsea reserve centre-back’s price tag.

Why Lucumi would be a better signing than Disasi

Unfortunately, despite showing promising early signs at Stamford Bridge, Disasi has become another forgotten man in Enzo Maresca’s overloaded camp.

The former AS Monaco colossus would shine in spurts for Chelsea when used frequently during the 2023/24 season, with an unerring 91% pass accuracy averaged across his 31 Blues league encounters, as per Sofascore.

However, he has also been prone to a lackadaisical error on the ball in the first team picture at Chelsea, as seen in this costly moment last season that saw now Chelsea attacker Liam Delap run away with confidence, before teeing up Omari Hutchinson to gift Ipswich Town a shock 2-0 lead.

The same lax errors seeping into his game on Wearside would be potentially detrimental to Sunderland’s survival chances, with Lucumi far more well-versed in what it takes to be a success at a challenging top-flight level in the Serie A, away from Disasi, who has largely flattered to deceive at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, last season saw Lucumi solidify his position as one of Bologna’s main starters, with a formidable ten clean sheets picked up as Italiano’s men finished in a comfortable ninth final spot.

Le Bris will be dreaming of similar secure finishes down the line at the Black Cats, with Lucumi actually trumping Disasi’s assured passing numbers at his Chelsea peak when also averaging a 92% pass accuracy last campaign, leading to analyst Ben Mattinson hailing the South American as “ice-cold” for his composure with the ball at his feet.

Bologna's Jhon Lucumi in action against Angel Di Maria in the Champions League.

The towering 6-foot-2 titan can also put his lofty frame to good use with 3.9 duels won on average, meaning he might well prove to be an ideal replacement for Daniel Ballard, too, if the Northern Irishman is resigned to another stay in the Stadium of Light treatment room after coming off injured at Burnley.

While Disasi was once previously dubbed a “monster” for his heroics at Chelsea by journalist Rahman Osman, it’s clear now that his stock has worryingly declined in West London.

On the other hand, for roughly £6m less than the Frenchman, Sunderland might well be able to poach a stronger alternative target in Lucumi, who is still very much stuck in his Bologna prime.

Fabrizio Romano says "reliable" gem is set to leave Arsenal for another club

Fabrizio Romano has shared some news out of Arsenal, with one highly-rated young player about to swap north London for another club.

With the international break soon drawing to a close, Mikel Arteta is about to prepare his side for an intriguing face-off against Nottingham Forest, who have just parted company with Nuno Espírito Santo in what was a shocking overnight move.

Nottingham Forest managerNunoEspirito Santo

Former Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is set to replace Nuno at Forest, and Evangelos Marinakis will also have the Australian through the door in time for Saturday, which makes Arsenal’s Premier League return part of a major story.

For the Gunners, it represents an opportunity for Arteta to steal some much-needed three points off a Forest side who’ll be finding their feet under a brand-new manager, and Arsenal really cannot afford to slip up.

Their 1-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield just prior to the international break handed Arteta his first defeat of the campaign, and perhaps emphasised that the Merseysiders are indeed outstanding favourites to retain their Premier League crown after a summer of lavish spending.

Arsenal showcased real ambition in the summer transfer market as well, spending north of £250 million on an array of key signings in Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze and Piero Hincapie.

Hale End academy sensations Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri, who are the two youngest debutants in Premier League history, are also expected to play a role amid this serious hype surrounding them and fellow teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Arsenal have high hopes for young signing Mosquera too, and there is a reported belief behind-the-scenes that the Spaniard could become one of the best centre-backs in the world over these next few years.

18-year-old Dan Casey was also praised by coaches for his potential at Arsenal, but the 2007-born attacking midfielder is about to join Crystal Palace after snubbing a contract to remain in N5.

Dan Casey set to join Crystal Palace after leaving Arsenal

That is according to Romano, who reports that a deal is agreed for Casey to leave Arsenal for Palace as the two clubs shake hands on a compensation fee.

The teenager attracted praise from Arsenal Under-18s coach Adam Birchall for his performances at academy level, including as recently as February, but the prospect of any senior debut for them is now off the cards.

Arsenal place bid for bargain Piero Hincapie alternative as club respond

Arsenal are widely reported to be pursuing a late deal for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, but sporting director Andrea Berta is known to have a plan B.

Hincapie has already agreed personal terms and gave his resounding ‘yes’ to Mikel Arteta’s project at N5, according to reliable media sources, and this move will have a correlating effect on defender Jakub Kiwior’s exit to FC Porto.

Many believed Arsenal were done and dusted for this window after sensationally hijacking Tottenham’s deal for Eberechi Eze, but with Kiwior potentially departing, Berta is lining up a replacement for the Poland international.

Kiwior deputised excellently in the absence of Gabriel Magalhaes.when the Brazilian was injured towards the back end of 2024/2025, and Arteta reportedly viewed the 25-year-old as an ‘important’ player in his squad as a result.

Ipswich Town'sGeorgeHirstin action with Arsenal's Jakub Kiwior

Once, or if, the ex-Spezia starlet leaves for Portugal, Arsenal need a replacement and solid back-up to the likes of Gabriel and William Saliba – especially if they’re serious about ending their two-decade-long wait for a Premier League title.

As Arteta found out last season, injuries can take a major toll on their charge, so the Spaniard cannot risk relying on Saliba and Gabriel to stay fit all season long – as that is very unlikely to be the case.

Their move for Hincapie makes perfect sense, with the Ecuador international fresh off a solid campaign at Leverkusen and proven at the top level.

However, the 23-year-old also commands a price tag of around £52 million, and it remains to be seen whether the Bundesliga side will sell to the Gunners this late in the transfer window.

While Hincapie is keen on the move, Leverkusen remains a major obstacle, and a potential alternative who’s been on Berta’s radar comes in the form of Palmeiras starlet Luis Benedetti.

Arsenal have made Luis Benedetti offer to Palmeiras

The 19-year-old is vastly inexperienced compared to Hincapie, making just a handful of senior appearances for Palmeiras, but he’s been praised by sections of the media as a “towering” and “aggressive” rising star defender.

According to journalists Diego Firmino and Felipe Lemos, sharing a scoop to TV Espirito, it is believed that Arsenal have offered around £8.5 million for Benedetti, but it was a no from Palmeiras, who are seeking £13 million plus bonuses to sell the teenager.

The Brazilian interestingly works with the same representatives as Arsenal defender Gabriel, so that connection could help them to facilitate a deal if Arteta’s side opt to go back in for Benedetti.
